We’re still waiting for word on who the next James Bond, aka Agent 007, will be, but that hasn’t stopped the Chinese automotive industry from releasing another 007.
No, it’s not a suave secret agent, but a large electric liftback that’s available to order now in New Zealand ahead of its first arrival in dealers in February 2026.
The Dongfeng 007 began production in China in 2024 and is now on its way to our neighbors across the ditch, where the Chinese brand is distributed by Armstrong’s Distribution Limited.
The independent dealer also exclusively sells Citroen, Opel, Peugeot and Smart in New Zealand and launched the Dongfeng brand late last year. The Chinese automaker has not yet announced any plans for the Australian market.

The Dongfeng 007 is completely unrelated to a nearly identically sized electric sedan with the same name: the Zeekr 007. Zeekr is owned by Geely, while Dongfeng Motor Corporation is a separate, state-owned automaker.
The Dongfeng 007 is known in China as the Dongfeng eπ 007 (pronounced “e pi,” in case you were wondering).
It is 4880 mm long, 1895 mm wide and 1460 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2915 mm. This makes it 40 mm shorter, 55 mm wider and 15 mm higher than a Toyota Camry with a 90 mm longer wheelbase.
The 007 features MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link rear suspension and is offered in New Zealand with a 70.26kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with 200kW DC fast charging and a choice of two powertrains.
The Long Range RWD variant features a single-motor rear-wheel drivetrain with an output of 200 kW and a torque of 320 Nm, a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.8 seconds and a range of 520 km on the WLTP cycle.
Priced at NZ$54,990 (~A$47,500), it comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, a power tailgate, a 19-speaker WANOS sound system, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and ventilated and power-adjustable front seats.
There’s also the requisite package of active safety and driver assistance technology, including a 540-degree surround-view camera with a transparent view of the chassis, as well as traffic jam assist and highway driving assist.
For an extra NZ$5,000 (~A$4,300), you can get the performance flagship with all-wheel drive and two motors, a 400kW/640Nm powertrain, a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a WLTP range of 389km. The standard equipment list remains essentially unchanged, although the Performance is unique and offers a two-tone ivory and gray interior.
The 007 will be Dongfeng’s “hero” model in New Zealand, sitting above its two other models: the Box, a small electric hatchback; and the Vigo, a small electric SUV.
The latter is another name for the Nammi 06, which was discovered during testing in Australia last year.
Dongfeng has consolidated its eπ, Aeolus and Nammi brands under the Dongfeng brand. The state-owned automaker also owns premium electric brand Voyah and M-Hero, which makes high-end off-roaders.
Then there’s Forthing, which received type approval to sell its range-extended Friday range-electric Friday mid-size SUV here late last year. Forthing is a brand of Dongfeng Liuzhou, a subsidiary of Dongfeng Motor Group.
Dongfeng has joint ventures with Honda and Nissan, with the latter producing a number of vehicles for the Chinese market, such as the Nissan Frontier Pro crew cab. Competing with the BYD Shark 6, this plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) is coming to Australia in 2027.
