Pricing, features and full specifications for the C5 SHS-H in Australia have yet to be announced.
The Chery C5 Hybrid runs parallel to series production and is not a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), but a conventional hybrid (HEV), similar in concept to the Toyota RAV4, Australia’s best-selling SUV.
In British specification, the C5 Hybrid uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a hybrid-specific transmission, sending a total of 150kW to the front wheels, enabling 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
A 1.83kWh battery and 51 liter fuel tank provide a claimed total range of “over” 1047km, with a combined fuel consumption of 5.3L/100km.
The model is offered in two model levels in the UK and includes 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting and two 12.3-inch digital displays with wireless smartphone connectivity as standard equipment.
Prices start at £25,740 ($51,134) for the first of two Omoda 5 model grades in the UK. For comparison, the price difference between the base Omoda 5 SHS-H and the Omoda 9 plug-in hybrid – which costs $61,990 before on-road costs here – is around $35,500.
Chery has announced that it will be among Australia’s top five best-selling brands as early as 2027 and has gained significant ground in 2025 with growth of 176.8 percent – the highest of any car manufacturer.
The small SUV Tiggo 4 was the strongest seller: 20,149 sales accounted for almost two thirds of the total 34,889 sales.
It plans to introduce a small hatch, a sedan and its first ute to rival the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
After Chery launched the Omoda 5 here in 2023, Chery launched sister brand Omoda Jaecoo in 2025. However, it decided not to sell the Omoda 5 under this brand as in other markets, but instead renamed it the Chery C5 (for petrol variants) and E5 (for electric variants).
