What I love most about Brussels is how much character it has. One minute you’re standing in the spectacular Grand Place surrounded by some of Europe’s most beautiful buildings, and the next you’re wandering through a quiet neighbourhood discovering tiny cafés, independent shops and hidden bars.
The city also has a fantastic hotel scene. Whether you’re looking for a five-star stay with serious history, a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of the action, or a comfortable budget base for exploring Belgium, there are some brilliant places to stay in Brussels.
I’ve picked out some of the coolest hotels in Brussels, from luxury properties that feel like destinations in themselves to affordable gems that prove you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a great stay.
Where to stay in Brussels
Grand Place: If it’s your first time visiting Brussels, staying around the city centre is a great option. You’ll be within walking distance of the Grand Place, Manneken Pis, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert and many of the city’s best restaurants and bars. It’s busy, but incredibly convenient.
Sablon: For me, Sablon is one of the most beautiful areas in Brussels. This elegant neighbourhood is filled with antique shops, chocolate boutiques, historic buildings and lovely cafés. It has a more refined feel while still being close to the main sights.
Saint-Gilles: Saint-Gilles is where I’d stay if I wanted somewhere with more local character. Known for its Art Nouveau architecture, creative atmosphere and excellent food scene, it’s one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the city.
European Quarter: A good choice for business travellers or anyone wanting somewhere quieter. The European Quarter has wide boulevards, green spaces and excellent transport links, while still being only a short metro ride from the centre.
Ixelles: Ixelles has a young, trendy vibe with independent shops, bars and restaurants. It’s a great area for travellers who prefer neighbourhood life over being right beside the main tourist attractions.
Luxury 5-Star Hotels
Hotel Amigo, a Rocco Forte Hotel
One of the most iconic hotels in Brussels, Hotel Amigo is where I’d stay if I wanted a classic luxury experience right in the heart of the city. Located just steps from the Grand Place, the hotel perfectly combines Belgian heritage with modern elegance.
The rooms are beautifully designed, with stylish interiors that mix contemporary touches with historic character. There’s also an excellent Italian restaurant, Ristorante Bocconi, which is a destination in itself.
What makes Hotel Amigo special is the atmosphere. This feels like a proper European grand hotel – somewhere with history, personality and a sense that you’re staying somewhere memorable rather than just checking into a room.

Juliana Hotel Brussels
Juliana Hotel Brussels is one of the newer luxury hotels in the city and has quickly gained a reputation as one of the coolest places to stay. Located close to Place des Martyrs and the city centre, it combines contemporary design with five-star service.
The interiors are stunning, with marble finishes, elegant lighting and a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere. There’s a beautiful spa with an indoor pool, sauna and wellness facilities, making it ideal after a long day exploring Brussels.
I particularly like that Juliana feels more like a boutique luxury retreat than a traditional corporate hotel. It’s stylish, intimate and designed for travellers who appreciate great design.

Stanhope Hotel by Thon Hotels
The Stanhope Hotel is one of Brussels’ most established luxury hotels and offers a more traditional European experience. Set between the Royal Palace and the European Quarter, it’s perfectly positioned for sightseeing while offering a peaceful escape from the city streets.

If you want somewhere stylish, comfortable and incredibly well located without paying five-star prices, Pillows City Hotel Brussels Centre is one of my favourite choices. Situated just a short walk from Brussels Central Station and the Grand Place, it’s ideal for exploring the city on foot.
The hotel has a modern boutique feel, with elegant interiors, comfortable rooms and thoughtful touches throughout. The design is minimalist but warm, making it feel much more personal than a typical chain hotel.
One of the biggest advantages is the location. You can step outside and immediately be surrounded by some of Brussels’ best sights, restaurants and cafés. After a busy day exploring, it’s the kind of place you’ll be happy to return to.
Best for: A stylish central stay with boutique hotel vibes.
NH Collection Brussels Grand Sablon
Located in one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in Brussels, NH Collection Brussels Grand Sablon is a brilliant option for travellers who want charm, culture and convenience. The hotel sits right on Place du Grand Sablon, one of my favourite squares in the city.
The rooms are modern and comfortable, with large beds, contemporary design and everything you need for a relaxing city break. The area outside is arguably the highlight, with chocolate shops, antique dealers, galleries and some fantastic restaurants right on your doorstep.
I love that this hotel gives you a more local Brussels experience compared with staying directly around the main tourist sights, while still being close enough to walk everywhere.

The Dominican
The Dominican is one of the coolest boutique hotels in Brussels, combining contemporary design with a fascinating history. The hotel is built on the former site of a 15th-century abbey where the famous Belgian painter Jacques-Louis David once lived.
Inside, the design is impressive, with high ceilings, dark wood, stylish lighting and a beautiful courtyard that creates a peaceful escape in the middle of the city.
The location is another major selling point. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the Grand Place, making it perfect if you want to explore Brussels’ historic centre without needing public transport. For me, this is one of those hotels where the building itself becomes part of the experience.

nhow Brussels Bloom
If you’re looking for somewhere a little different, nhow Brussels Bloom is one of the coolest four-star hotels in the city. Located just north of the city centre, this design-led hotel is famous for its colourful interiors, with every bedroom featuring artwork created by a different artist. It gives the hotel a fun, creative atmosphere that feels unlike anywhere else in Brussels.
The rooms are bright, spacious and modern, while the restaurant and lounge areas continue the hotel’s playful aesthetic. It’s only a 15-minute walk to the Grand Place, and there are excellent metro and tram connections nearby if you want to explore further afield.
I love that nhow Brussels Bloom doesn’t feel like your typical city hotel. It’s stylish without being overly expensive, making it a fantastic choice if you’re after somewhere memorable for your Brussels city break.

Budget 3-Star Hotels
Motel One Brussels
Motel One Brussels is proof that budget-friendly doesn’t have to mean basic. This stylish hotel offers excellent value, combining affordable prices with a fantastic location just a short walk from the Grand Place.
The rooms are simple but modern, with comfortable beds, clean design and everything you need for a city break. The real highlight is the impressive lobby area, which feels more like a trendy café or social space than a traditional budget hotel.
It’s particularly popular with younger travellers and visitors who plan to spend most of their time exploring rather than sitting in their room. If you’re looking for somewhere affordable, reliable and well designed, Motel One is hard to beat.

Hotel Made In Louise
Hotel Made In Louise is one of Brussels’ best boutique budget hotels and a fantastic choice if you prefer staying somewhere with personality. Located in the trendy Ixelles neighbourhood, it offers a quieter and more local experience than the city centre.
The hotel is housed in a traditional Brussels townhouse, but the interiors have been beautifully updated with modern design, colourful touches and cosy communal areas.
I particularly like the atmosphere here. It feels less like a chain hotel and more like staying in a stylish guesthouse, with friendly service and plenty of character. Although it’s slightly outside the main tourist area, excellent transport links make getting around easy.

B&B HOTEL Brussels Centre Louise
B&B HOTEL Brussels Centre Louise is a brilliant budget option for travellers who want comfort and convenience without spending too much. Located near Avenue Louise, it’s surrounded by shops, restaurants and some of Brussels’ most interesting neighbourhoods.
The rooms are modern and practical, with comfortable beds and everything needed for a short stay. There’s also a pleasant garden area, which is a nice bonus when you want somewhere to relax after sightseeing.
This hotel works particularly well for longer stays or travellers who value location and affordability over luxury extras. It’s a reliable base for exploring Brussels while keeping more money in your pocket for Belgian waffles, chocolate and beer.

MEININGER Hotel Bruxelles City Center
MEININGER Hotel Bruxelles City Center is one of the best budget choices for younger travellers, families and anyone looking for flexibility. Located in a converted former brewery beside the canal, it has a fun, social atmosphere that feels different from a traditional hotel.
The rooms are modern and practical, with options ranging from private rooms to more affordable shared accommodation. Facilities include a guest kitchen, games area and communal spaces where travellers can meet.
While it’s not right beside the Grand Place, it’s still within walking distance of the main sights and offers excellent value. For backpackers, families or budget-conscious travellers, this is one of the coolest affordable stays in Brussels.
