Despite being an indie darling Stardew Valley Since the game was only developed by a single developer, you certainly wouldn’t know it by the amount of support the game has received since its release in 2016. Regular updates, ports to other platforms, and even full-fledged online multiplayer make the game feel essentially endless. In fact, it’s one of Daily Sparkz’ 50 Best Video Games of All Time.
With Stardew Valleys After Update 1.6 added this multiplayer mode, fans are begging for cross-platform play and progression. So if you’re looking for fellow farming enthusiasts or farming friends, read on to find out if you can get them across console, PC and mobile.
Is Stardew Valley cross-platform?
While developer ConcernedApe is working on a ton of new content at the time of writing (October 2025). Stardew Valley still doesn’t provide cross-platform supportSo you have to play with friends on the same platform.
One reason for this could be that Stardew Valley, since its launch in 2016, predates the major cross-platform push spearheaded by the likes of Fortnite.
Therefore, you must on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series
In 2018, a fan asked ConcernedApe if it was likely that the farming sim would be played cross-platform.
“Unfortunately there won’t be any crossplay. Apparently the technical hurdles are very high. This is still something I’m keen to add and I promise to look into it, but the top priority is to get the update out,” he replied, and it’s been quiet since then.
As for cross-save, that doesn’t exist either. For example, you can’t save on your PC and pick up where you left off on your Xbox, or switch between Nintendo Switch and PlayStation.
The best way to get there is probably to use Steam’s cloud save feature to play on PC and then continue playing on a laptop or Steam Deck, but that’s not a solution that’s right for everyone.
Haunted ChocolatierConcernedApe’s next game certainly looks promising, so let’s hope it manages cross-platform play and cross-save at least in this game. And hey, who knows? Maybe the developer will surprise us with crossplay and cross-save in the future.
Current status in 2026
The most important recent change is not full crossplay, but experimental multiplayer on mobile devices. The official Stardew Valley mobile multiplayer guide confirms that Android and iOS now have a hidden experimental multiplayer feature tied to mobile version 1.6.
Which Stardew Valley platforms can play together?
- Windows, Mac and Linux: Yes
- PlayStation with PlayStation: Yes
- Xbox with Xbox: Yes
- Switch with switch: Yes
- PC with console: NO
- PlayStation with Xbox or Switch: NO
- Console with cell phone: No standard crossplay
- Mobile with PC: Experimental only, setup required
So if the goal is to simply collaborate with friends, the safest advice is still painfully boring: buy the game on the same platform.
What about Stardew Valley mobile multiplayer?
This is the part of the answer that now needs nuance.
According to the official Stardew Valley Mobile Multiplayer Guide: Android and iOS have a hidden experimental multiplayer mode. It is not enabled like the standard multiplayer mode and has additional steps. Players must be using the same version of the game, connected via IP, and often on the same local network unless using more advanced setup methods such as port forwarding. The official guide also warns that the feature is experimental and may have bugs or saving issues.
This means that there is mobile multiplayer, but no sophisticated crossplay with a full range of functions. It’s more of an official experimental workaround than a seamless buy anywhere, play anywhere system.
Does Stardew Valley have cross-save?
NO. Stardew Valley still does not offer comprehensive, official cross-save or cross-progression across its major platform ecosystems. For example, a game save on the Switch should not seamlessly transition to Xbox, PlayStation or PC, as players today expect from fully networked live service games.
Why doesn’t Stardew Valley offer full crossplay?
Part of the answer is timing. Stardew Valley was introduced in 2016, long before full cross-platform support became an expected multiplayer feature for almost every popular co-op game. Multiplayer support has expanded over time, and the current game supports up to eight players in multiplayer in supported environments, but that still doesn’t translate to wide crossplay across all platform families.
In other words, Stardew Valley has multiplayer, but not the universal version that modern gamers expect.
Cross-platform status of Stardew Valley in 2026
Stardew Valley Even in 2026, it is not yet fully cross-platform. PC gamers can play together on Windows, Mac and Linux. Console players generally need to stay within their own platform ecosystem. Mobile now has an official experimental multiplayer option, including the ability to connect in a way that blurs the old boundaries a bit, but it’s still limited, hidden and far from full crossplay.
If the goal is to start a farm with friends and avoid technical nonsense, everyone should still plan to buy the same version on the same platform. It’s not glamorous advice, but it’s better than finding out too late that your multiplayer plans are based on wishful thinking and turnips.
