Octopus Energy has been named Britain’s Most Admired Company 2025, making it the youngest company ever to win the prestigious award.
Britain’s largest energy supplier won the top prize at a ceremony at the London Stock Exchange, beating long-established corporate heavyweights, some of whom have been in business for more than a century.
In addition to the overall title, Octopus received six Gold Sector Awards and two Silver Sector Awards, highlighting its company’s strong reputation across the UK economy.
Founder and chief executive Greg Jackson said the recognition carries special weight as it comes from colleagues and competitors from across the business community.
“Business leaders use the word ‘humble’ all the time, but that’s really the case today,” Jackson said.
“It feels like a real achievement to be Britain’s most admired company and to be voted by other companies, including our competitors.
“It is the result of the incredible focus and commitment of 12,000 people working together, outstanding long-term investors and the fact that the British public are not just demanding better, but are choosing to do it.”
Now in its 35th year, Britain’s Most Admired Companies is the longest running annual business reputation survey in the UK. The ranking is carried out by Echo Research in collaboration with the London Stock Exchange and assesses more than 250 of the UK’s largest companies across 28 industries.
Companies are judged against 13 reputation criteria, with more than 350 interviews conducted with board members, analysts and city commentators between July and October 2025, meaning rival companies have a direct say in the results.
Octopus Energy was the only private company to make it into the top ten overall. It secured the top spot ahead of Airbus in second, Marks & Spencer in third and Rolls-Royce in fourth. Rolls-Royce boss Tufan Erginbilgiç has been named Britain’s most admired leader.
Octopus won the Energy Distribution and Supply Gold Sector Award for the third consecutive year. It also received gold awards for clarity in strategy, effective use of corporate assets, positive contribution to society and reducing environmental impact. The company received gold for the quality of management and silver for the ability to attract, develop and retain talent and the ability to innovate.
Dame Julia Hoggett, chief executive of the London Stock Exchange, said Octopus’ success was more than just strong financial performance.
“Octopus Energy is recognized not only for its strategic clarity and operational excellence, but also for its visible leadership in the energy transition that brings together national resilience, affordability and ambition,” she said. “It is a powerful example of translating goals into performance and performance into trust.”
Sandra Macleod, group chief executive of Echo Research, added: “Octopus Energy’s recognition reflects a mix of strategic clarity, decisive leadership and visible social and environmental contribution. They are rated not only as the most admired company in their industry, but also the most admired in the UK, a rare sign of confidence from peers, analysts and commentators in the City.”
