Tesla Model Y: Long wheelbase model receives EU approval – report

The long wheelbase Tesla Model Y has reportedly been approved for sale in Europe, increasing the chances of it being offered in Australia.

The user states that the approved variant has an 88 kWh battery, which enables a WLTP range of 681 km when equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels.

Compared to the regular Model Y, the L has a longer wheelbase, extended rear doors and a bulbier rear. This allows seating for six people in three rows, with captain’s chairs in the second row and a 50/50-split bench seat in the rear.

The YL model is 4976 mm long, 1982 mm wide, 1668 mm high and has a wheelbase of 3040 mm. The overall length has increased by 184mm and the wheelbase is 150mm longer than the standard Y. The ride height has been increased by 2mm, the front track is 20mm wider, but the rear track is 12mm narrower.

In China, the only powertrain available is a dual-motor system with a 142kW unit at the front and a 198kW motor driving the rear wheels. Together they deliver a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds.
