Updated bedroom curtains – this was the right decision

I’m still working on the curtains for the bedroom, so unfortunately this year on the blog won’t end with this big project crossed off my to-do list. But I have completed a panel to the point where we can compare the original version and this new version and see the difference.

When I started making these curtains, I decided to wrap the trim around the edge of the front edge of each panel. For some reason I thought using the entire width of the trim would be too much. But as I shared earlier this week, when the first panel was almost finished and I hung it up to pin the hem in place, I wasn’t really happy with the look of the wrapped trim.

So yesterday I ripped out a whole lot of seams and removed facings. Then I basically started over. I just got one panel ready to hang, with pleats finished so I can pin the hem in place. And as soon as I stepped back to take a look, I breathed a sigh of relief. Being able to see the full width of the trim looks much better to my eye. It looks much more elegant and professional.

And contrary to my original fear, I don’t think it’s too daring at all. It definitely helps that I colored the trim with coffee to tone it down a bit. Had I left it in its original, lighter orange color, I think it might have been too noticeable. But with its new, muted colors I love it.

So that’s where I’ll leave things for this year. That doesn’t mean I won’t be working on the bedroom at all for the next two weeks. In fact, I plan on continuing to work on the bedroom over the next two weeks. The difference is that I don’t put pressure on myself to get things done every day. If I want to take a whole day off to read and watch movies with Matt, then I’ll do that. But if I feel inspired to make an upholstered headboard, I’ll do that. And then I’ll meet you all back here on Monday, January 5th, and we’ll pick up right where we left off.

I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t fully finish the bedroom suite by the end of this year. But at the same time I am very proud of the work I have done. This was a huge project, so I won’t blame myself because it took a little longer than I expected. Instead, I’m going to end this year with a look back at how far I’ve come.

This space has come a long way! It assumed…

And of course, a thousand steps were taken to get from point A to point B, and so many of you followed every step of the way. Thank you for following this journey, for all your contributions along the way, for sharing the failures with me, and celebrating the victories with me. It’s been a fun year and I’m looking forward to picking up right where we left off in the new year. I’ll be back tomorrow for one final post of 2025 as we take a final look at everything I accomplished this year and we’ll see how I did on my master list of home goals for 2025.
