Stay personal… – Daily Sparkz

It’s time for a personal blog post again because so much has happened.

Last week, after Easter, I took our son back to college and took the opportunity to take some graduation photos of him. He graduates May 9th. I can’t believe it’s been four years already. It feels like it was yesterday that he went to college.

Our daughter is graduating from high school at the end of May. Her prom also takes place at the end of May. Tonight we have her final night for track and field. It’s so bittersweet to see another one of her high school sports come to an end.

My new tattoos

I also decided it was time to finally get more tattoos. My family in Germany will probably say, “Why on earth did you do that at your age?” and I say, “Why not?” You see, I have lots of little white spots on my arms that are damaged from the sun. Especially my left arm, which could be because this arm gets more sun from driving and is on the sunny side. I haven’t liked these white spots for a very, very long time.

I have a tattoo inspiration board on Pinterest. I won’t be getting large tattoos anymore because I’m afraid of developing skin cancer spots and not being able to tell when I’ll have them. It is very difficult to tattoo white on skin because white disappears with time. My whiteness will never disappear. These spots are the result of reduced or absent melanin production in the skin, resulting in lighter or white spots. In summer you can see the spots much more often.

So I got small, thin stars tattooed around the white spots, and the only thing that matters is that I love them. I much prefer looking at the stars than the plain white spots. I’ve always said that when I turn 50 and still love tattoos, I’ll get more tattoos, and that’s what I did. My favorite spot is the close-up in front of it, which is bright white and resting on my shoulder. They will still fade over time.

Since our 25th wedding anniversary, I have worn the larger star on my hand, which surrounds a large white scar on my hand.

My son said, “Mom, they match your aesthetic!”

DIY projects

As for the projects, we encountered an unexpected problem with our stock tank pool after attempting to open it up for the warmer weather. I mean, we knew we’d probably have to replace the liner at some point, but it still stinks that it happened now. We have had the storage tank pool with liner since spring 2019.

As you can see in the picture below, there was a huge hole in the liner. We suspect the hole was cut into the liner by a large chunk of ice. The liner had also shrunk significantly, especially towards the top where it was not completely covered by water.

We covered the failed attempt to paint the storage tank basin with Flex Seal with the foil. Now you can really see it peeling off in pieces after I removed the old liner.

The thing is: some of the bamboo is also rotten and falls off. So it makes sense to just do a larger project out of our stock tank pool again and remove rocks so we can replace the liner and bamboo without having to remove all of the peeling flex seal. I’m currently waiting for all supplies to arrive this week. My husband has to do all the hard work.
