How to make yarn stars with fairy lights
These glowing twine star ornaments combine the cozy texture of wrapped jute twine with the magical glow of fairy lights. The drying time of the glue-soaked yarn adds a little extra time to this project, but that doesn’t affect the fact that they are quite easy to make. The result is a rustic, textured ornament with a warm glow that looks beautiful both during the day and at night.
This is also a perfect project to use up leftover yarn you may have from other projects. I could even use leftover macrame yarn from all my patterns. But I still had a lot of jute twine left over from my DIY pendant light and shell tassels, so this was the ideal way to put it to good use. (The idea for this tutorial actually came to me when I was looking at my jute pendant light while having dinner one day)
Once you get the hang of the wrapping technique, it all comes together quickly! Let’s get started.
Step 1: Print out star templates and cut them out roughly
Below you will find my star templates. You can scale them in your printer window and print them in any size you want. It’s okay if they are blurry as you only need the corners and points roughly. My smaller stars are about 3.25 inches tall and I ended up using these for the glowing yarn stars.
Roughly cut out the shape, but not along the star outline.
