Mumbai Police beefs up security at Kapil Sharma’s house after the attack on a cafe in Canada

Security has been increased at television star Kapil Sharma’s Oshiwara residence following a shooting at his newly opened cafe in Surrey, Canada. Mumbai police were seen at Sharma’s house in DLH Enclave building Andheri West on Friday, a day after the attack at Kap’s Cafe, which he runs with his wife Ginni Chatrath.

According to officials, police personnel have been stationed outside the building for additional security and checks are being carried out on people entering and leaving the premises. Police also spoke to the community’s private security guards and inspected the area. However, there is no official confirmation of any specific threats against Sharma in Mumbai, nor has his statement been recorded by the authorities.

The incident in Canada occurred in the early hours of Thursday when at least nine to 12 shots were fired into the glass wall of Kap’s Cafe in the 8400 block of 120th Street in Surrey. The attack caused property damage but no injuries. Harjit Singh, an activist with the banned group Babbar Khalsa, claimed responsibility for the shooting, saying it was in retaliation for comments about Nihang Sikhs’ dress during a television program hosted by Sharma.

The shooting has raised concerns about the safety of Indian celebrities with business interests abroad, particularly given the recent surge in similar attacks in Canada. Police and other authorities in India remain on alert following the incident.

Sharma has not publicly commented on the attack and it remains unclear whether he will resume filming for his Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil Show at Filmcity. Kap’s Cafe, which opened on July 4th, quickly became popular for its decor and menu, and the team behind the cafe expressed shock and sadness at the violence, but also showed resilience and gratitude for the community’s support.
