Random bedroom details – front door privacy, bathroom door question, new artwork and success with coffee colored curtains

I started reworking my “new” bedroom lamps yesterday, but the project turned out to be a little more complicated than planned. The lamp bases are made of resin but have a very textured/antique finish. I didn’t realize how long it would take to sand off all of the original paint so I could paint it. But even though it’s taking longer than I thought, I’m still so excited about my Facebook Marketplace find. While we wait for me to finish this project, I thought I would share a few more details with you.

At first I wondered what I would do with the door in the bedroom to give us privacy. I love this new door in the bedroom, but it is at the front of our house which makes privacy an issue. I don’t like blinds attached to the door, so this wasn’t an option for me. Of course, I could always go back to my standard solution and use the privacy film, but I love the ability to see clearly through this door.

So when I attached the sheer fabrics (which aren’t actually typical sheer fabrics, but are a bit thicker), I thought maybe that would solve the problem. But as you can see, even though they’re not the standard thin briefs, they’re still very sheer and see-through.

I went out last night to see how transparent they are and you can see everything. I wish I had thought to take a photo, but even during the day you can see the ceiling light (top right) very clearly through the fabric.

But then I realized I hung four panels on this door. So I was wondering how it would work if I just pulled all the excess over the door if we want privacy. It doesn’t look particularly pretty, but who cares? If it works, I only close it at night anyway, as I’m the only one who cares about what it looks like on the inside. And since I’m sleeping, I don’t really care. (I keep forgetting to paint these outlet covers.)

Again, I wish I had taken a photo of this last night, but it looks like this is working! At night, even with all the lights on, I couldn’t see through it. And during the day you can see how it blocks out the overhead light.

So it looks like we will have all the privacy we need at night and I can keep the glass clear and clear without the need for privacy film so I can see out the door. At first it really bothered me that these were a bit too short. If you remember, the floor in this room is the uneven floor in our entire house, and that is the low side (generally it is lower, but the right corner is high). I’ve been thinking about hemming them so they’re the length I prefer, which is about 1/4 inch from the floor. But if I open and close it every day and the majority of it is behind the velvet curtains, I think I can live with this length just fine. You can tell me your opinion. They are about an inch above the ground.

And then I come to the bathroom door. Yesterday someone asked me if I was going to remove the privacy film from this door and honestly I hadn’t even thought about it.

But now I’m thinking about it. I think it would be very nice to have a clear view of the bathroom through this door. I initially installed the privacy film not only for privacy reasons (since I never closed the shutter on the front window in my previous home gym), but also to block the view of the home gym from the bathroom. But now that the two rooms are finished and connected, I’m thinking about removing them.

I can’t wait to get this framed and hang on the wall to cover the breaker box.

I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ordered a print from Minted and I’m very impressed with the quality of the print. The paper they print on is amazing. And I can’t get over how this looks like it was painted specifically for this bedroom.

And finally, I dyed the trim for the curtains with coffee. I think it was a success! I just wanted to tone down the bright white and darken the orange a bit. The trim didn’t absorb much of the coffee dye since it’s made entirely of polyester, but I think it absorbed just enough to accomplish the goal.

Here’s a reminder of what it looked like before…

I simply used some organic dark roast instant coffee from the supermarket, poured about 250ml of this instant coffee into a large pot of boiling water and then added the rest. I left the residue on for about five minutes, stirring the whole time, then took it out and rinsed it. It seems to have worked perfectly!

So I have a few projects “in progress” right now. I still have to finish the curtains, but I kind of lost it because the curtain rings I ordered won’t be here until Friday anyway. I’ll work on it more this weekend and hopefully finish it. And then since yesterday I started reworking the lamps. So hopefully I’ll be able to finish these two projects in the next few days and then move on to the headboard! While I know I won’t have all the details finalized by my break, my goal is to have us moving into the space before I take my end-of-year break. It would be so nice to be in our new bedroom for the holidays, even if all the little details aren’t finished yet.
