The Hyundai i30 Hatch N he was expected to ride off into the sunset. According to a “well-informed source” who spoke to a British publication, this is not the case Autocar.
Instead, Hyundai has reportedly started work on a “new version” of the i30 N, which will feature an internal combustion engine rather than an electric drivetrain.
It is expected to be hybridized, similar to the next-generation i20 N Autocar There is speculation that this could be an uprated version of an existing electric powertrain or even an entirely new gasoline engine.

Hyundai recently confirmed it is testing a new engine for performance cars, described as high-revving and powerful, and intended for mass production. It was mounted amidships in a Veloster mule.
Autocar According to reports, this new i30 N could be based on an upcoming facelift for the i30 Hatch, which has already been spotted in testing and suggests a launch in late 2026 or early 2027.
That suggests Hyundai may be looking to extend the lifespan of its current-generation i30 Hatch, launched in 2017, even further, while the company is planning a similarly sized Ioniq 3 electric vehicle (EV) – unveiled in this year’s Concept Three – for markets such as Europe.
This move would also make it less likely to integrate a new engine into the aging i30.
The regular i30 Hatch (and associated liftback and wagon versions) remain on sale in Europe, but the N was phased out there in 2024. That’s the opposite of Australia, where Hyundai confirmed this year it would do away with the “regular” i30 hatch but keep the N.
In its 2030 product roadmap announced this year, Hyundai confirmed that the N division’s offering will be expanded to seven models, including the first hybrid offering, in addition to the current gasoline and electric models.
The N division currently offers hotter petrol models with the i20 N Hatch, the i30 Hatch N and the i30 Sedan N – with hybrid powertrain that former N boss Albert Biermann has been eyeing for the i30 Sedan N in 2024.
