I found the perfect lamps, artwork and side tables for the bedroom

I still haven’t finished the curtains for our bedroom, but I had some small successes over the weekend. First of all, if you’ve followed this bedroom project from the beginning, you know how frustrated I was trying to find the perfect table lamps for our nightstands. A few people reminded me to check out Facebook Marketplace (which I always forget) and I immediately found the perfect lamps. Unfortunately they were already sold.

After keeping an eye on the marketplace for about two more days, I finally gave up and bought two of these ginger jar lamps (affiliate link). I didn’t like the idea of spending a little over $100 per lamp if I planned on painting them, but I liked everything else about these lamps – the lampshade, the gold accents, and the ginger jar shape.

After purchasing, the perfect lamps appeared on the marketplace the next day. I mean, they’re not quite perfect yet, but they will be. In its current state, the color and finish of the lamp base are completely wrong and I really don’t like the lampshade. But all of that can be changed. What really interested me was the shape of the lamp base and the potential it offers.

While it looks very different than the original lamps that I really wanted (which were way out of my price range), it has the same features that allow me to replicate the design of those original lamps with all the different “layers” and center urn shape. And I was actually pretty excited that the lamp bases were more massive than the original lamps.

I can’t wait to give them a makeover inspired by the original lamps and see what they look like. I have high hopes! And the best part is that the pair was only $40. They’re a little bigger than I wanted, but that’s okay. I can adjust the height of the headboard accordingly. I did have to drive to Killeen (an hour away) to get them, but it was worth it.

I also found the (soon to be) perfect side table for the recliner. My heart was set on a small table with a turned wooden spindle look. All the real wood turned side tables on Amazon looked cheap to me (especially the way the spindle screwed together in the middle), so I decided to focus more on the shape (just like with the lamps) rather than the material. That’s when I found this cute metal side table (affiliate link).

I love the shape of this table. Assembly took about two minutes. It is available in black and this cream color. I bought this because I thought the light color would be easier to cover and match than the black. The challenge now is to make it look like light, natural wood. Challenge accepted.

And finally, I chose the simplest option for my problem wall, which is where the breaker box is located. I won’t try to hide the fact that the TV is a TV. I’m going to build a frame around it like I did with our previous TVs, but this time I’m not going to paint it white but a natural wood color. And then I’ll hide the fuse box with a piece of art.

I briefly thought about making my own artwork, but pretty quickly dismissed that and decided to find a print by a real artist that I love. Since my heart was set on a landscape, I went looking. I found about ten that I thought would work and then narrowed the selection down to the following finalists.

The third option was completely different. This colorful abstract print set (a digital download) from Line2Form on Etsy (affiliate link) caught my eye for obvious reasons. I could only use one of these and I wasn’t sure if it would work because the color is fuchsia predominant since pink tones don’t exist in our bedroom. But the artwork doesn’t have to fit the room perfectly, so I kept it as a finalist.

This landscape art print by BlackPeonyX on Etsy (affiliate link) also caught my eye. I love the print, but I was worried it might be a little too “southwestern” in style. The rug in our bedroom could easily take on this Southwest style as well, depending on what else fits in the room, and that’s not really a style I want to lean into. But as a finalist I still kept it.

This Texas landscape print from Hellstrom Prints on Etsy (affiliate link) was originally my favorite, but I was worried that the overall look might look too dark against the dark teal wallpaper. I was hoping for something with the same colors but with an overall lighter and brighter look. But he ended up in second place.

The final option was this Hidden Spring art print by Mya Bessette on Minted (affiliate link). I’ve been following Mya on Instagram for years and was so excited to find this poster on her Minted account that matches the colors in our bedroom perfectly. And it overall has the bright, bright look I was hoping for.

After narrowing down my favorites, I went into the bedroom with my laptop, sat on the floor so I could see the wall the artwork would hang on, and thought about all the options. The first two were way too pastel for the room. In the third option, I found the fuchsia to be far too intrusive. As I suspected, the “Southwest” print looked even more “southwestern” with the rug, so that wasn’t an option. That left me with the final two, and of course I went with the brighter and brighter option. I ordered the print and paid for rush shipping, and it should be here today!

It’s going to be pretty big. It needs to be such that it covers the fuse box while hanging high enough to be proportional to the framed TV. Since it will be so large, I gave up on the idea of hanging it on hinges. It will be much easier to hang it on a French cleat so it can be quickly and easily removed from the wall when I need access to the breaker box.

So all the little details are coming together, but at the same time I have created a few more (small) projects for myself. But that’s okay. I like the fun part of this bedroom project, and part of the fun is the designing and customizing. I’m really excited to see how all these smaller projects come together.
