The ancient story comes to life in a new way on the stage of the Bass Concert Hall. Beauty and the Beast features fast and entertaining choreography, incredible special effects and nostalgia with a twist. Your whole family will enjoy this enchanting musical.
Why Beauty and the Beast is this season’s can’t-miss show!
You can’t help but smile as the familiar score begins to play. If you’re like us, you’ve probably been watching Beauty and the Beast A million times as a child. As soon as Belle enters the stage, you are transported to this poor provincial town. The colorful costumes, exuberant characters and beautiful sets are a feast for your senses.
The stage musical features songs you know and love, and a few new ones. Texas State graduate Kyra Belle Johnson embodies Belle perfectly. Her voice is youthful and powerful at the same time. Another Bobcat, Cameron Monroe Thomas, is stunning as Babette. During the post-show talkback (again on Wednesday, December 10th) we learned that Kevin Ligon, who plays Maurice, also has Texas roots!
Parents warning!
If you are bringing small children, be aware that the wolf scenes can be a bit intense, similar to the film. The beast’s temperament is also a bit frightening at times. My 11 year old and the older lady next to me gasped at the same time throughout the entire show. Overall, however, the production will amaze your children. In true Disney form, the use of technology creates magic before your eyes. The dance sequences also continue seamlessly. “Be Our Guest” will leave you on the edge of your seat with the biggest childlike grin on your face.
The energy throughout the show is enticing. From the elaborate stage sets to the heartfelt musical numbers, children and adults alike will love this experience. My daughter is already begging to watch it again!
