The Cayenne receives recognition in the form of a luxury watch.
Since the Porsche Cayenne hit the market in 2002 and surprised everyone by being both a true luxury SUV and unmistakably a Porsche, it has carried that quiet influence throughout the brand’s lineup. It became the gateway for many new owners, the family Porsche that still behaved like a sports car, and the model that shaped its modern design DNA. It’s fitting that Porsche Design celebrates the SUV with something more personal when the first all-electric Cayenne comes onto the market, thanks to the tailor-made Timepieces program. What started as a very Porsche 911-focused idea to allow mechanical watch owners to have the same features as their car is now opening its doors to Cayenne drivers who want their straps to reflect the same colors, materials and design features that make their SUV their own.
The program’s appeal lies in how naturally it adopts the automotive world. You still have the choice between two movements: the chronograph with the WERK 01.100 and the globetimer with the WERK 04.110, both COSC-certified and built in the Porsche factory in Grenchen. But nothing about this experience feels overly technical. You start with a titanium case, either bead blasted or coated black, and then decide whether you want a bezel with a tachymeter or minute display. From there, you can dive in as deeply as you like with the configurator. The dial’s color ring can match any Cayenne exterior finish, including the more vibrant “paint-to-sample” options, and the hands are available in Porsche Design’s “Performance” or “Essence” styles.
The straps might be where the Cayenne connection feels strongest. They’re made from genuine Porsche automotive leather and thread and can be paired with almost any Cayenne interior color – a fun detail if you’re the type who notices seams. If leather isn’t your thing, the titanium bracelet that matches the case finish is ultra-light and the quick-change system makes switching between the two almost too easy. Both the Chronograph Cayenne and Globetimer Cayenne are now available in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan. Prices start at $6,250, but just like the configuration of the actual SUV, the final figure depends on how low you go.
