We’re back home, people! I’m so sorry I wasn’t here with an update yesterday. Based on the comments and emails I’ve received, I know many of you have been worried about Matt, and while I had good intentions of writing a quick update to let you all know how he’s doing, I just didn’t get around to it yesterday.
In any case, Matt is doing very well. He was in the hospital from about midnight Friday evening until about 1:30 yesterday afternoon with a urinary tract infection that led to sepsis. It’s been a difficult and stressful few days because, as I’m sure you all know very well, it’s virtually impossible to get a good night’s sleep in a hospital with nurses coming in every few hours to turn on the lights to take vitals, change IVs, administer medications, etc.
When we left the hospital yesterday, I was so exhausted that I felt like I was walking around in a dream state. I took Matt home, made sure he was comfortable, and then got us some lunch. By the time we finished lunch, I couldn’t keep my eyes open and was asleep. Y’all, I took a 2.5 hour nap. On a Tuesday. I’m not a person who likes to take a nap at allbut taking a nap on a weekday is unthinkable for me. But after four nights of terrible, interrupted sleep, I had no choice.
Anyway, I woke up this morning hoping to be fully rested and ready so I could get back to work in the foyer. I don’t feel rested at all and I don’t feel ready to go back to work, but I’ll do it anyway. I’m so close to finishing the foyer that I’m hoping my excitement about finishing it will help me make some progress today.
To pick up where we left off last Friday, here is the list of actions required to fully complete this area. I have to…
- Move the cable for the router,
- Patch the little hole in the ceiling,
- Attach the trim to the inside of the closet door to finish the edge of the wallpaper…
- Apply another coat of white paint to the bathroom/closet doors.
- Install doorknobs on bathroom/closet doors.
- Either frame the chapel picture in a larger and more eye-catching frame or add sconces that flank the picture.
- Sew the bird pillow,
- Add a new pillow insert to the pink pillow.
- Finish repairing the patched ceiling (sand, primer, paint),
- Attach door handles/handles to the French doors,
- Apply privacy film to the glass of the French doors.
And aside from cleaning the area thoroughly (cleaning the floor, cleaning the air intake vent, etc.), I think that’s it! I decided to leave the walls next to the bathroom/closet doors blank…for now. I love the view of this wall from my closet, with just grasscloth and paneling. Once I finish the foyer and clean out the closet, I’ll show you this view.
I also bought some candlesticks to try out with the chapel picture. I’m going to try them out and see if I like them better than the sconces that came from our previous bedroom. And then I’ll see if I can find a nicer, fancier frame and whether I might like it better than the current gold frame. I kind of love using sconces, but maybe I feel different if the chapel picture has a larger, fancier frame.
However, I’m still incredibly tired and having a hard time getting going after the last few days with Matt in the hospital. But I’ll try my best to regain focus today and make some progress. I may need lots of strong coffee to get through this day.
