Two polls: fabric of the headboard and placement of the mirror in the foyer

Based on some comments I’ve received in recent posts, I’d like to conduct two informal polls about two different decisions I’ve recently made. I cannot guarantee that I will make my final decisions based on the survey results. After all, I have to decorate our house according to my personal taste. But sometimes it helps me to see how the majority thinks, and sometimes a comment from one person stating their reasons is enough to sway me. So there are no guarantees here, but I’m looking forward to your input.

The first is the fabric of the headboard. I originally wanted to use the bird fabric as a headboard.

I love the bird fabric, but using it as a headboard made other decisions difficult. The biggest challenge was what to do with the bed frame. I really don’t want a wooden bed frame as I already have two wooden nightstands. I prefer fabric on the bed frame (either upholstered or as a bed skirt), but the bird fabric next to the rug just doesn’t do it for me. It seems my only option would be a wooden frame or a solid cream base (either upholstered or as a bed skirt) and that just seems boring and out of place to me.

So I decided I needed something that would ground the bed better and then I could use the bird fabric as an accent. This made it much easier for me to put everything together since I could also use the teal fabric as a bed skirt.

But a few people said, “Please go back to the bird fabric for the headboard!” Okay, but it’s easy to make that one decision and cover the headboard with bird fabric. What isn’t quite as easy, however, is putting together the rest of the plan. What else goes with it if I have a bird fabric headboard? It’s easy to imagine a headboard made from bird fabric. It’s all the rest that goes with it that I have a problem with.

Here’s a look at all the fabrics I have. So tell me. If this were your room, what fabric would you use for the headboard? But if you choose the bird fabric, you must tell me how you would finish the bed as this bird fabric is not suitable as a bed skirt.

Okay, next is the mirror in the foyer. A few people said it looked weird hanging over the wainscoting and chair rail. I don’t mind it at all, although someone pointed out that I wasn’t able to get it centered on the wall. Pooh! Math is hard, people. If it stays here, I definitely need to center it.

But the other option is that I could get a tall easel and put the mirror in the corner. I like this idea too, but it will reflect my closet. As long as my closet is clean and everything is put away, it’s not a bad thing.

So tell me what you think about these two things:

  1. Headboard fabric – Teal geometric or bird fabric? And if you were to use the bird fabric, you need to tell me how you would finish the bed. It seems to me that my only option for a base would be a wooden base since a bedskirt made of this bird fabric is not an option next to the rug.
  2. Foyer Mirror Placement – Do you leave it on the wall (and center it)? Or buy a large easel and put it in the corner?
