Lamborghini has unveiled its next one-brand racing car at the Misano World Circuit, the Temerario Super Trofeo, which is scheduled to debut in Europe, North America and Asia in 2027. It marks a historic turning point for the brand and a bittersweet farewell to the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that defined Lamborghini racing for nearly a decade.
In its place is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, a downsized but far more powerful engine designed to meet modern emissions standards and offer a more compact design, torque and power. The new engine produces 650 hp in the racing version, while the road-going Temerario Stradale produces 800 hp. Lamborghini also ditched hybrid assistance altogether, keeping the car lighter, simpler and more focused.
“In 2009, we made the bold decision to launch the Gallardo Super Trofeo. Lamborghini was not born as a racing brand, yet our customers have constantly asked us for a product designed for the racetrack. Over the years, Super Trofeo and customer racing have become a real pillar of our long-term corporate strategy, strengthening the bond between the brand and its most passionate customers. With the Temerario Super Trofeo we take another decisive step and reaffirm our promise to be one to deliver pure racing cars.” for the growing community that accompanies us during the Lamborghini Super Trofeo weekends.” – Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Within the Temerario hierarchy, the Super Trofeo sits between the Stradale and the Temerario GT3 launched in July, sharing the Hoer-developed six-speed sequential gearbox with the GT3 car. For the first time, the two machines share key mechanical components, including parts of the chassis and drivetrain. Ironically, the Super Trofeo has more power than the GT3, whose output is limited to around 585 horsepower by the SRO’s Balance of Performance (BoP) regulations.
The Super Trofeo is about one second per lap faster than its GT3 sibling and costs about half as much to purchase and maintain. It is equipped with rear-wheel drive, an ALU/CFRP hybrid chassis and 12-stage traction control with ABS. It also gets improved aerodynamics, including a larger rear wing, a new front splitter and an aggressive rear diffuser, which generate more overall downforce while improving stability.
Compared to the Huracán Evo2, the Temerario takes a more rational design approach, ditching the tailfin, roof scoop and flared fenders in favor of cleaner lines and standard mirrors. Inside, the Temerario features an integrated FIA roll cage and also debuts Dinamica Infinity, a 100% PES non-woven suede used on the dashboard, marking its first use in motorsports.
Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo began with the Gallardo and the series has now developed into one of the most successful one-make cups in the world. Since 2009, more than 1,300 riders have competed in 563 events worldwide, and the Temerario Super Trofeo continues that legacy: leaner, meaner and more streamlined. This makes it a cornerstone of Lamborghini’s motorsport identity and a lucrative business for Sant’Agata.
