The grasscloth wallpaper in the bedroom is finished!!! I still need to finish some details like covering the light switch plates. And I still need to add the little trim on the inside of the closet door where the wallpaper meets the trim on the closet side of the door. But the grass cloth is ready.
I haven’t had time to lighten the one strip to the right of the closet door yet. I’m still planning on doing this, so hopefully it will blend in a little better with the piece to the right when it’s finished. But for now I’ll show you the entire area with very few comments. I start with the foyer and then go to the bedroom.
I just want to say that I had to use separate pieces for the top door jamb. This was the only way to keep the width of the wallpaper constant. But I think it turned out really well. If I didn’t point it out, I don’t think anyone would know that the pieces on the wall and the pieces that wrap around the top post are separate pieces.
I also keep forgetting that I have to finish the foyer ceiling where I had to repair it after moving the light fixture. But that’s not important at the moment. It’s all about the walls here. And that’s the only explanation I have for this tour. I’m really going to shut up and just let you guys look through the pictures without my comment.
I’m so glad to have completed this huge project and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But I tried to take my time and make it as perfect as possible, especially since it was the first time I laid the grass cloth properly. And it’s been over 10 years since I last installed the grass cloth incorrectly. (I literally used spray adhesive last time.)
Now I can turn to the other projects. I might actually start reupholstering the bench. It should be a quick and easy project that I can get started with. And then I move on to the curtains. But right at this moment I feel like I need a nap. This grasscloth wallpaper project was much larger and more time consuming than I expected and I’m feeling pretty exhausted. I just finished wallpapering and tidying the room last night at 10:30 p.m. And even then, you’ve probably noticed that I still haven’t had time to actually vacuum and clean the foyer floor. I have a few drywall mud stains that need to be cleaned off the floor.
But now I need rest. And maybe I’ll just lie down on the bedroom carpet to admire the beautiful grass fabric. I’m so excited to see how it turned out!! It really far exceeded my expectations.
And by the way, I plan on writing a post with all the tips and tricks I’ve learned while laying grasscloth. I was quite intimidated by the project before I started, but over time I realized that it really isn’t that difficult. I found it perhaps a little more demanding than applying a standard wallpaper, but it’s actually not much different. So if you’ve always wanted to install grasscloth and feel intimidated by it, don’t do it, especially if you’ve installed wallpaper before. But I will publish this post soon. However, I was far too tired today to include that. I really need a nap.
