Anthropic has quietly delivered Claude one of the most significant quality of life upgrades in months. To July 10, 2026The company has introduced a significant update to the way Claude’s storage system works – and if you regularly use Claude for work, research, or creative projects, you’ll notice the difference almost immediately.
What has changed
Previously, Claude’s memory functioned more like a running summary – a nugget of text that Claude referred to as needed. The new system is fundamentally different. The memory now works as Set of individual, categorized entries that Claude actively reads and updates during your conversations.
Instead of a long paragraph about who you are and what you like, Claude now has clear, organized memory cards – one for your professional context, one for your communication preferences, one for your ongoing projects, and so on.
The practical result is that Claude can retrieve certain information about you much more precisely. If you told Claude three months ago that you preferred non-bullet answers or that you were working on a product launch in the third quarter, that information is now in a dedicated storage entry and no longer buried in a general summary where it might be overlooked.
Why it matters
The previous storage system worked reasonably well for casual use, but began to show cracks when users had complex, cross-domain relationships with Claude.
A power user who talked about cooking, work strategy, personal finance, and creative writing in dozens of conversations would end up with a mnemonic summary of trying to get too much done at once. The categorized input system solves this problem by breaking context into tracks, making retrieval more reliable and updates more targeted.
Anthropic has also made memory management more transparent with this update. Users can now see their individual storage entries in Settings and edit or delete specific entries without deleting their entire storage history – a disappointment many users found with the previous system.
Who gets it
The updated storage system is available for Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. For it to work, storage must be enabled in your settings – it’s not enabled by default for all users. If you have a free subscription and haven’t activated storage yet, this update is a good reason to do so.
This storage upgrade also ties directly into a separate feature that Anthropic introduced the day before – the new one Reflect Dashboard covered in the next story – which uses your save data to create a monthly summary of how you used Claude.
The two features are designed to work together as part of a broader effort to make Claude feel less like a tool to be picked up and put down and more like a persistent, context-aware collaborator.
