The least reported change of the month
While everyone in the blogging world was focused on Google’s May core update and the drop in AI Mode traffic, something slipped through that is actually good news for content creators – especially those who have built an Instagram presence alongside their blog.
Since July 10, Google has been showing publicly accessible Instagram posts in search results. Reels, carousels and videos published by a professional account can now also be discovered outside of Instagram.
This is a real, clear win for bloggers who maintain professional Instagram accounts. Your Instagram content is now searchable on Google. Every reel you publish, every carousel post, every image with a descriptive caption – all of that is now potential Google search space, appearing alongside your blog posts in the results.
How you can capitalize immediately
The change requires almost no technical work, but it does require a change in the way you think about Instagram captions. Previously, a photo caption was a social copy – short, engaging, with emojis and optimized for the Instagram audience. Now it’s also SEO texts, and the principles that determine the rank of a website also apply to what you write under your posts.
Go back through your last 30 Instagram posts and add descriptive, keyword-relevant alt text to any that don’t contain it. Going forward, write captions that include the specific niche topic you are covering, any relevant location tags, and a clear description of what the content shows or teaches.
“Here’s my new post” is not SEO copy. “Complete Guide to Keyword Research for Affiliate Blogs in 2026 – Three Tools I Use Every Week” is.
The Grid Reorder feature provides editorial control
Instagram introduces the ability to rearrange your profile grid in any order instead of a strict chronological order. For bloggers, this is an opportunity to create a profile. Your grid is now the first impression of anyone who discovers your Instagram through Google search, a recommendation, or another post.
If you arrange your grid so that it starts with your most powerful and representative content – your most useful tutorials, your most clear product demonstrations, your most compelling visual content – then first impressions count.
Combined with Google indexing of Instagram content, bloggers now have a multi-surface content ecosystem where a single effort – an Instagram Reel that explains a concept related to your blog niche – can show up in Instagram feeds, Instagram Search, Google Search, and potentially Google Discover.
The distribution reach of a single content investment is truly new and truly valuable.
