I decided to create my own pattern for the new dining room curtains and last night I started looking for options for the elements I would like to use to create my pattern. And oh my god, there are so many good ones!
Let me back up a little and explain a little for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about. If you remember, I designed the floral wallpaper and matching fabric for the studio curtains myself.
But I didn’t create the flowers myself. I purchased the flowers from people who create the artwork and sell them so that individuals and companies can create their own products using these artistic elements. You can buy them and arrange them however you like, so you can use them on fabrics, clothing, wallpaper, advertising, and anything else you can think of. You just need to purchase the correct license depending on whether it is personal or commercial use, and if it is commercial use, you need to purchase the correct license based on the number of products you want to sell. For those of us who aren’t artists, it’s a great way to support artists and still make our own fabrics and other products.
When I decided to design my own fabric for the dining room curtains, I went back to Creative Market to see if I could find the perfect elements for my print. And I found so many options! I haven’t even gotten to the design process yet because I’m still going through all the great options I’ve found to narrow it down to the ones I want to try.
And just like I did with the studio wallpaper and fabric, I’ll probably end up purchasing at least two different packages to use together. In general, I find certain elements that I like in each package, but I have yet to find a single package that contains everything I need. So I buy two or maybe even three to create the final design.
Let me show you some of the amazing options I found. It won’t surprise you to know that I’m looking for watercolor flowers, namely pink, teal and green. So that’s what I typed into the search on this website to find these.
As far as colors go, this one is spot on. Keep in mind that I want to find or build a dining table that I can paint this bright, fresh green color. That’s why I was pretty excited to find this hand drawn watercolor botanical pack of bouquets with these light green and teal stems with a pink flower. And there are butterflies too!
If you’re not sure how to use this to create a fabric pattern, you can refer to my tutorial linked at the top of this post to see the details. However, the simple explanation is that when you purchase one of these packages, all of these elements are included separately and on a transparent background. So all you need is a photo editing program that allows you to add each element in a separate layer so you can move each element independently and arrange it the way you want it to look.
Therefore, this package includes each of these individual elements as well as several pre-made bouquets that can also be used. But I prefer to use the individual elements rather than the pre-made bouquets.
Anyway, I hope it makes sense how this works. I have 23 different packages saved that I need to sort through so I can narrow them down to the two or three I will use. That’s what I’m doing now as I go through them to show you the ones I want to share with you. Of course, I won’t be sharing all 23 that I saved, so I’ll just go through them to show you my favorite.
This hand-painted watercolor flower set from Vintage Florals also has the right colors, but I’m not sure it offers enough variety. This artist does not provide a photo showing all the individual items like most of them, but the listing states that there are 24 individual items and 3 bouquets. But it has the pink, the teal and the light green.
This watercolor floral set from Jardin Del Sol also has the right colors, but again, I’m not sure it has all the elements I want. Therefore I would have to add another sentence to this. What I love about this one is that it doesn’t just contain the individual elements…
…but there are also these background watercolor options that can be used as a background for the flowers so they don’t sit on a solid color background.
Next up is this peony watercolor set. I love these flowers because they are brighter and bolder than the previous ones, and I really like that.
Here you can see some of the individual items included in this set, but there are many more, plus bouquets, seamless patterns (which can be used individually as wallpaper or fabric), wreaths and more.
This Valeria watercolor flower set is a little different in that most of the flowers aren’t exactly pink. They’re darker than what I would normally lean towards, but when I saw it I audibly gasped. And that is generally a good sign. But this set alone is not enough because as you can see, there is no teal and I really want teal in my curtains.
Here’s a look at some of the individual items included in this set.
I’m trying to exercise a little self control because I’d like to show you all of the ones I’ve saved. They are all so amazing. But I’ll just show you a few more. This floral watercolor “Meditative Clarity” immediately caught my eye for obvious reasons. It has teal, pink and BIRDS.
Here are the individual items included in this set…
But there are also these line drawings that I think could be really interesting combined with the watercolor floral elements.
Here’s a look at each of the items included in this set. This one is perhaps a bit too thin and soft for me. I like my flowers to be a little bolder and more colorful. But I absolutely love this sweet little bird.
As you can see, I have a big challenge ahead of me. There are so many great options and I think I only shared seven of the 23 sets I saved. So not only do I have to remove 20-21 of them to get to the two or three sets I’ll actually use, but I then also have to arrange them in the perfect, repeatable pattern for my dining room curtains. But I have a lot of good options and a lot of great elements to work with here!
