The finished entryway (plus updated pictures of our living room and music room)

Matt and I have both been a little under the weather the last few days, but I finally have pictures of the finished entryway as well as some updated photos of our living room and music room. Let’s start with the entrance area.

We don’t have an official entrance. Our front door opens into the large vestibule of the house. That’s why I tried to divide this large room into two areas to create more of an entrance, that’s why I call this wall entrance wall. This is what the entrance wall used to look like.

I actually really liked the look of the entrance area. So in my mind, redesigning the entrance didn’t necessarily mean I wanted to improve something I didn’t like. I was just ready for a change. I bought this floral wall mural at Anthropologie when it was on sale at a discount I couldn’t pass up, and then kept it for over a year while I figured out where to put it. With all other options gradually disappearing, the entry wall was the clear option for the mural. Although I really liked the previous version of the entrance, I was ready for a change.

Here’s the new look of the entryway with the new mural as the star of the show.

I originally planned to use two lamps, but I planned this after I cut the holes for the sconces in the mural, and then I had serious doubts about whether I could patch those holes without it being an obvious patch job. But after fixing them with art pastels, I have to search to find them. That’s why I decided not to cover the dark pink flower on the right with a lamp because the spot over the hole blends in so well.

The mural is definitely the biggest and boldest change I’ve made to this area, but the second is the new color for the console table. From the moment I repainted my green kitchen in 2017 until I recently completed our master bedroom, green has not played a prominent role in our home. But over the last year I’ve slowly added more and more greenery. I added quite a bit of greenery to our bedroom…

And I added a little in the foyer of the bedroom suite.

And I have quite a bit of greenery in the studio, especially in the back entrance and bathroom, but I also have the huge landscape design that has a lot of greenery in it and is framed in greenery.

So it just felt right to add more greenery to the main areas of the house. I’ll probably expand the music room, living room, breakfast room and possibly even the kitchen at some point. But now I have started with the entrance.

The mural makes a big impact in the living room and I absolutely love it. Since putting up the mural, I’ve been spending more time in the living room just staring at the mural.

One change I made that I will probably undo is that I put the bird pictures on the wall in the living room between the music room and the kitchen. I liked the idea in my head much better than in reality. However, I think the problem could be with the frame. While I liked these gold corners on the frame when they were on the entry wall, I think these gold corners may be too common on this wall. I think I would like the bird prints here if they were in plain white frames. So if I have time I’ll probably try removing the gold on the corners and see if I like it better. I have a feeling I will.

Here are a few more pictures of the living room without comment…

And now we move on to the music room. The biggest change here is that there used to be a paneled opening from the music room to a hallway that led to the hallway guest bathroom and three bedrooms.

But now that paneled opening has French doors and everything behind those doors has been converted into our master bedroom.

But otherwise everything is the same.

I really love this new view from the music room of the entry wall with the new mural.

But like I said, I think now I need to find a way to add more green to the music room. There is green in my large pixel flower artwork, but I would like something more.

So that’s it for now! I’ll keep you posted on any changes I make as I find a way to add more greenery to the living room and music room. I don’t know why, but I’m really starting to love green more and more. It was never the main color of my decoration, but the more I add the more I love it and the more I want it. But for the immediate future, I’m done making changes to these rooms. However, I’m still unsure about the teal front door. I really want to paint it white, or at least a color other than teal. However, I find it difficult to make a decision. Now that you’ve surveyed the entire area, can you let me know what you think I should do with the front door. I would really like it to be a little different than teal.
