Grasscloth Wallpaper for Bedroom and Foyer, Progress (It’s So Good!!)

I continued working on installing the grasscloth wallpaper in the bedroom and foyer over the weekend, and although I haven’t finished it yet, I’m absolutely thrilled with the result. I’ve never installed grass wallpaper (properly) before, so I’m trying to work diligently but not rush too much so I don’t make any mistakes. So far it has paid off. I won’t say I did the job perfectly, but I’m really excited about the result.

On Friday I shared that I was a little disappointed because one particular piece seemed darker than the others.

This took the wind out of my sails right at the start of the project, but when I got back to work on Friday afternoon, I decided to ignore it, push forward, and do my best not to let the imperfections distract me. After all, it is a grasscloth wallpaper, and part of the beauty of grasscloth wallpaper is its imperfect and natural look.

I’m so glad I made the decision not to dwell on the imperfections because the more I finished, the nicer everything looked.

I can’t express how much I love this deep, rich, beautiful teal. I’ve wanted grass wallpaper for so long and having these beautiful walls in this great color in our bedroom is an absolute dream.

In my opinion, there is just something almost magical about grasscloth. It adds such a beautiful texture and depth that you can never achieve with a solid color.

I completely finished three of the bedroom walls – the headboard wall, the exterior door wall, and the dresser wall.

And then I finished my weekend work by starting with the bathroom door on the wall. I don’t know why, but the first piece, which wraps around the bathroom door on the left, was the most challenging piece so far. There was just a narrow strip of wallpaper, about five inches wide, on the left side of the trim. And it seemed almost impossible to bend and fold this piece of wallpaper next to the trim without shifting and pulling it away from the previous piece. I finally did it, and it took all my patience for the day. So I stopped there last night.

Once I get the next piece to the right of the door, the rest of the wall will go smoothly.

That one piece on that wall that had to be cut around the fuse box was also a bit of a challenge. The areas around the breaker box wouldn’t lay flat, so it took some trial and error. But once I put the piece on, the rest was easy.

And that’s how far I got in the foyer. I ran out of patience to tackle more challenging areas, so I had to wait until I had rested and recharged before tackling the part around the closet door.

But people. Seriously. Just look how beautiful it is! Even though this one piece appears darker, which I believe is just due to the lighting, I couldn’t be happier with the result.

I’m not quite sure what to do with the breaker box cover. I could try covering it with grasscloth or I could try to find a deep teal spray paint. In any case, it will be covered so that the fuse box is not visible in the finished room.

I’m so glad I decided to carry the grasscloth and wainscoting into the foyer. If you remember, my original plan from the start was to separate the two areas and treat them differently. But this will be much better and will make the whole room feel much larger and more open.

And I was so relieved when I saw that the wall, which was so wavy and required so much mud and sanding to get it reasonably smooth and flat, looked great once the grasscloth was in place.

I’m not sure if I can do it today, but I’ll definitely try. Once I attach the other piece to the bathroom door, the rest of the long bedroom wall will be finished pretty quickly and easily. And then it just leaves the foyer.

The foyer isn’t very big, so I have high hopes that I can do it today, but I’m also trying to be realistic. It’s a small area with a lot of doors, and working around the doors will certainly slow me down. But I will do my best. I would LOVE to show up tomorrow with the walls completely wallpapered!!
