India: The U15 Round of 32 of the third UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships at Abhay Prashal offered an exciting day of table tennis, highlighted by remarkable comebacks and confident advance to the quarter-finals for both the boys and girls. The competition was fierce and several young players showed impressive poise under pressure as they fought for a place in the next round.
The boys experienced extreme pressure in some matches, which reflects the increasing intensity of competition at this level. TTFI-1’s Aarav Aacharya produced one of the standout performances of the round by recovering from a 1-2 games deficit to defeat Maharashtra’s Shreyas Mankeshwar 9-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 11-4 in a tense five-game thriller. Ariv Dutta of West Bengal also had to dig deep and overcome spirited resistance from Chandan Caro Sinai of Goa before securing a hard-fought 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 11-8 victory. In another marathon duel, Somdev Sengupta of NCOE edged out Pranjal Chakraborty of West Bengal with a mixed score of 11:5, 11:6, 9:11, 11:13, 11:7.
In addition to these shaking games, several in-form players made progress without any problems. Aaditya Das and Souswarya Banerjee led the West Bengal team with comfortable consecutive victories, followed by consistent performers like Harshith Reddy of Telangana and Akash Rajavelu of Tamil Nadu, who gave little away in their respective games.
The girls’ competitions were equally exciting and were characterized by courageous resistance and confident performances. Krishvi Arora of Punjab made a nice comeback to defeat Anokhi Kesari of Uttar Pradesh 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4 in a five-game clash. West Bengal’s Sreosree Chakraborty delivered one of the most memorable performances of the round, fighting back from a two-game deficit to defeat Ranjini Saha 7-11, 3-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6 in an inspiring turnaround.
Aarya Redkar showed remarkable determination under pressure, overturning a 4-7 deficit in the fourth game to force a decider before racing to victory. Since her opponent was unable to keep her nerve after taking a 2-1 lead, the PSPBA paddler used the momentum and finished the game confidently, winning 11:9, 10:12, 9:11, 11:7, 11:2.
There were also dominant performances, with Maharashtra’s Naisha Rewaskar and West Bengal’s Sreejani Chakraborty prevailing in straight games. Ankolika Chakraborty was also confident and pushed her opponent aside without losing a game.
