Patna: Sunit Chowrasia announced his return after a long injury layoff with a hard-fought one-shot victory at the INR 25 lakh ALPHA Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026 hosted by Patna Golf Club, the fourth event of the DP World PGTI NexGen 2026 season.
Calcutta-based Sunit Chowrasia (71-65-73), nephew of the legendary SSP Chawrasia, who led by three shots overnight, hit a consistent score of 73 in the third and final round to claim his first title as he reached a total of seven under 209 for the week.
31-year-old Sunit’s win earned him a prize money check worth INR 3,17,875, which took him from 41st to sixth in the DP World PGTI NexGen Order of Merit 2026.
Bipin Mukhiya (68-75-67) shot the final day’s best score of 67, moving up four places to take second place at six-under 210. Bipin’s second place earned him a check worth INR 2,67,875, which moved him from seventh to first place in the NexGen merit list, while his season earnings rose to INR 5,28,688.
Divesh Rana (68), Vinay Kumar Yadav (72) and Rajesh Kumar Gautam (74) finished third at three-under 213.
Md Nawab achieved the best result among the Patna-based professionals after scoring 1-over 217 to secure a tied 13th spot.
PGTI would like to thank its title partner DP World and its tour partners Amul, Axis Bank, Campa, Amrutanjan Electro Plus, Golf Plus Monthly and Golf Design India for their support in expanding the tour.
Patna Golf Club is a par-72 nine-hole course where the nine holes are played twice to form a round.
Sunit Chowrasia, who reached the lowest round of the tournament with his 65 on the second day, was not at his best on Thursday but held on until the end and saw off his nearest rivals. Sunit had a mixed front nine with two birdies and two bogeys. He then conceded a bogey on the back nine, but also made some solid pars and went on to become the eventual champion.
Sunit, who was out of action for three-and-a-half years due to injury until he returned to play at the DP World PGTI in February this year, said: “As I had a comfortable lead in the third round, the plan for the final round was to play conservatively and take advantage of most birdie opportunities whenever they came. I didn’t have the best of days today but I kept my patience in the high pressure situation on the back nine to finish the game.”
“This win is a huge boost to my confidence considering I have just returned from a long injury lay-off which has kept me away from competitive golf. This is exactly what I needed to revive my game. I had been hitting the ball well in the last few tournaments but yesterday’s round saw all aspects of my game come together which did wonders for my confidence ahead of the final round here in Patna. I will carry this confidence into the coming season.”
Commenting on the successful conduct of the tournament, Sumit Prakash, Founder and Director, ALPHA Sports Academy said, “The ALPHA Sports Academy Golf Championship is a significant step towards our long-term vision of building a strong pipeline of golf talent in Bihar and India.
