The second generation Mercedes AMG GT gets two extreme variants: a roadworthy one Black series model and a closely related model GT3 racing car.
Introduced in last year’s Concept Track Sport, the new Black Series is effectively a homologated road version of the GT3 race car.
New images of camouflaged prototypes of both vehicles have been released, with the Black Series version’s fairing featuring striking yellow-green accents, while the GT3 development vehicle adopts AMG Motorsport’s new special red color.

So far, the tests have been carried out on the AMG circuit in Immendingen in addition to the Blister Berg, Portimão and Monteblanco race tracks. As development now enters a “new phase”, the two cars have also begun racing around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Unfortunately, no details about the cars were included with the confirmation of the GT3 and Black Series, but they are rumored to be powered by AMG’s latest flat-plane crank V8.
Zooming in closer, we can see the Black Series riding on 20-inch wheels with 325/30 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires at the front and 21-inch rims with 355/30 rubber at the rear.
Compared to the current GT coupes in showrooms, the Black Series/GT3s feature much wider bodywork, as well as a wild aero package with a large front splitter, a huge rear wing and a large rear diffuser.
The Black Series also features a series of flics on the redesigned front fascia and a grille with thick vertical bars.
Other changes include a hood scoop, large vents on the trailing edge of the front fenders, side exhausts, fixed side windows, fuel fillers where the rear side windows would otherwise be, and a set of air intakes in place of a rear window.
The regular GT’s flush-fitting, fold-out door handles have been replaced with lighter and easier-to-use grab handles.
A release date for the two cars has not yet been determined, but AMG is likely aiming to have the GT3 ready for the 2027 racing season, and the latest Black Series is likely to be limited again – and expensive.
Of the approximately 350 examples of the original Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Coupe produced between 2010 and 2014, ten came to Australia at a price of $639,000 each.
And all 28 examples of the first-generation Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series allocated to Australia sold outright at the end of 2020, despite a sticker price of $796,900 plus on-road costs – and a resale value often in excess of $1 million.
The track-focused 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT63 Pro was launched in Australia earlier this month and is priced at $418,900 plus ORCs.
