Mumbai: Day 2 of the JSW Indian Open 2026 delivered high-octane squash at the CCI, with a mix of dominant performances, stunning comebacks and marathon thrillers over five matches as Indian stars rose to the challenge and delivered confident performances.
The outstanding duels were played by the Egyptians Ibrahim Elkabbani and Mohamed Sharaf, who both emerged victorious from exciting five-game encounters. Elkabbani pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, defeating top seed Yahya Elnawasany 3-2 in a 66-minute battle. In addition, Sharaf prevailed with another powerful five-setter against Hong Kong’s Chi Him Wong.
India’s Abhay Singh put in a clinical performance to defeat Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai. Despite a difficult start, Abhay found his rhythm, dominated the game and secured a comfortable 3-0 win. In the women’s draw, Tanvi Khanna impressed with a composed and confident performance against Egypt’s Nour Khafagy. While Khafagy gave his all in every game, Khanna held his nerve in crucial moments and secured a 3-0 win. Top seed Anahat Singh also continued her strong run and recorded a solid win in a row against Farida Walid of Egypt. Anahat remained in control throughout the game, combining precision and consistency to secure her place in the next round and win the game 3-0.
Veer Chotrani pressed his authority early and raced ahead before an unfortunate failure from Omlor halted the contest. Joshna Chinappa showed her class and temperament in big games, prevailing against the aggressive Breanne Flynn in a hard-fought four-game clash. Despite a spirited performance, Velavan Senthilkumar pressed hard in every game but failed against the composed Ameeshenraj Chandaran. Ramit Tandon showed early signs of his quality but was defeated by Duncan Lee in a closely fought back-to-back clash.
As competition heats up, Day 3 promises more high-profile encounters as players face off in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
