Bengali girls and boys shine as headliners in the finale

India: At the third UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships in Abhay Prashal, the youngest paddlers delivered spirited battles that thrilled the crowd, with the U-13 Junior Girls final taking the spotlight. In a dramatic five-game duel that swung like a pendulum, West Bengal’s Titash Chatterjee showed courage and composure to defeat his compatriot Debanshi Chakraborty 8-11, 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7. The encounter was marked by sharp rallies, tactical exchanges and fearless shots from both sides, ultimately highlighting the increasing depth of India’s girls’ table tennis talent pool, particularly in Bengal.

In comparison, the U-13 youth boys title fight, although hard-fought, came to an end quicker. Ariv Dutta of West Bengal showed controlled aggression and maturity beyond his years to defeat Dev Bhatt of Gujarat 11-9, 11-9, 11-6. With calm execution under pressure and well-timed attacking strikes, Ariv ensured West Bengal’s dominance in the U-13 phase was clearly underlined on championship day.

The next generation of Indian table tennis talent put in spirited performances, with the U-13 and U-11 competitions offering a glimpse of bright future prospects. The U-13 games in particular were characterized by fast rallies, strong temperament and impressive shooting technique, while the finalists secured their places in the title round.

In the boys’ U-13 category, Ariv from West Bengal and the promising young player Dev reached the final after even semi-final appearances. Ariv remained stable at crucial moments and registered a consecutive win against M. Ashvajith of Tamil Nadu. He won the game 11:9, 12:10, 11:7. Dev followed this focus and defeated Trijal Vohra of Punjab 11-8, 11-9, 2-11, 11-5. After the defeat in the third game, he quickly recovered. Earlier, Ariv defeated M Siddhanth of Karnataka 3-1 and Ashvajith defeated Pratyush Manna of West Bengal. Dev held off Maharashtra talent Ayaan Athar in a tight five-game quarterfinal clash while Trijal defeated Aakarshan Yadav of Maharashtra in four games.

The girls’ U-13 semi-final was equally hotly contested, with West Bengal’s Titash and Assam’s Debanshi moving into the title race. Titash battled his way through compatriot Sreosree Chakraborty in four hard-fought games while Debanshi made a strong turnaround to defeat Assam’s Divija Paul in five games. In the quarterfinals, Sreosree, Divija, Titash and Debanshi all survived hard-fought games, highlighting the strength of the age group.
