I already know this will be a controversial decision, but it’s done. I decided to hang some curtains on the window of my walk-in closet. And while I already know some people will hate it, I can tell you that I love it. Let me tell you what led to this decision.
I started thinking about this about four weeks ago. I was in the kitchen dreaming about what our breakfast room would look like when we could finally move into our new bedroom and I could have a proper dining area again. And I started imagining what I wanted the food to look like.
I really don’t want to make too many changes to the overall look. I want it to be a dining area instead of a living room, but I want to keep it colorful and entertaining. I plan on keeping the buffet there and it will keep the same dark purple it currently has. The picture shelves remain as they are. Basically I’m planning on swapping out the lounge chairs for a dining table and chairs. But I also want new curtains for the room. I’d like a fabric that’s not quite as intense in color, and maybe something with a fun, colorful print.
Especially looking at the rooms from this perspective while standing in the kitchen, I think the curtains on the dining room windows should really be a print and not another solid color.
It’s not that I don’t like the curtains in the breakfast room. I really love her very much. I love the color, the weight of the fabric and the glittery trim on the front edge. I love everything about it, but I just think I can find something that works better in this room.
But because I really love these curtains, I started wondering where I could use them. I wanted to find a home for them, but I only have two panels and I can’t get more of the fabric or trim.
In the meantime, even though I love, love, LOVE my closet, there are a few things that bother me about it. Firstly, while the wallpaper I chose is definitely one of my favorite wallpapers, the back wall (main wall) seems very busy to me. Secondly, I don’t like that my chandelier somehow gets lost against a busy background. And thirdly, I just want more pink. I’m really glad I didn’t choose pink for the island. I think that would have been completely wrong and the dark blue turned out to be perfect for the island. But I just wanted more pink in it.
And sometime in the last three weeks I realized that maybe these breakfast room curtains would be perfect for my closet! The color seemed just right. The glitter trim on the front edge seemed perfect for my closet, especially with my glitter artwork above the washer and dryer.
I took the curtains into the closet and hung them over a ladder for a few days so I could see them and make a decision. I ended up having to drill holes in the wallpaper if I wanted to hang curtains here, so I didn’t want to make a hasty decision. But the more I saw her here, the more I loved her. I finally hung the curtains yesterday and I love them so much!
I really like how they break up the busyness of the wallpaper and also provide a solid backdrop for the chandelier.
And when I saw that beautiful raspberry-colored picture on the wall, I felt like it was “me.” Finally the room had the splash of pink I was longing for.
I was a little worried that they might get in the way of the washer and dryer opening properly, but that’s not the case at all.
The panel on the left needs a little more hemming, but that will have to wait. It’s good enough for now.
So I already know some people are going to hate this decision, but I absolutely love it. I’m just a curtain girl. I need and want curtains on all my windows because I love fabrics, patterns, textures and colors and I think a window without curtains in my house is a missed opportunity.
I wish I could have hung it higher, all the way up so that the rod was directly under the trim, but unfortunately the panels weren’t long enough for that. So I had to work with what I had.
I enjoyed having this closet so much and I really enjoyed everything about it, but I always felt like something was missing.
And now it’s really perfect For me.
