Calcutta: Kolkata Knight Riders’ hard-hitting Ramandeep Singh has found new inspiration in the dugout ahead of IPL 2026 with the arrival of Shane Watson and Andre Russell as assistant coach and power coach respectively.
Since joining KKR in 2024, where he was part of the team that lifted the third IPL trophy, Ramandeep has contributed 172 runs at an impressive strike rate of 167.9 and has 6 wickets to his name. More recently, Ramandeep shone with 209 runs at a strike rate of 195 and 9 wickets in 10 games in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and looks set for his best season yet in the purple and gold.
As he prepares for the season, the 28-year-old is trying to adapt his game to the demands of each surface and scenario he will face. “My approach this year is very situational. I work on my understanding of possible scenarios every time I come in to bat, I also try to understand how the pitch is evolving and play the right shots accordingly,” he said.
Ramandeep’s domestic achievements this season went far beyond his batting performance. His performances with the ball also highlighted the growing confidence in his bowling abilities and he is keen to make the same impact in the IPL. “If I get the opportunity, I want to perform as a bowler too because I believe I have the ability to be an all-rounder. I will give my best on the field and hope the results will follow,” he added.
One of the most exciting developments at Kolkata Knight Riders this season has been the addition of legendary all-rounders Shane Watson and Andre Russell to the coaching staff. For Ramandeep, the prospect of learning from two of the game’s best is a great opportunity to take his game to the next level.
“Having them in the dugout is a blessing. I want to make the most of it and absorb as much from them as possible. I also hope I can emulate their success in the crucial, game-winning moments for the team.” he expressed.
The right-handed batsman is considered one of the most reliable finishers for KKR. Finally, he spoke about the mental approach required to perform under pressure, saying: “That’s what I’ve been working on over the last year. I want to play the situation and not just entertain. My goal is to be a match-winner and it doesn’t matter what people say on social media or elsewhere. My only focus is to improve my skills every day.”
