Polestar Australia has confirmed that it will launch its smallest and cheapest model yet – the Polestar 7 compactSUV – very late 2027 or early 2028.
In conversation with Daily SparkzPolestar Cars Australia managing director Scott Maynard said the brand’s upcoming all-electric baby SUV was still around 18 months away.
“Right at the end of 2027 – and (could) extend to 2028 – we will see the Polestar 7 compact SUV (arrive in Australia),” Maynard said.
The Polestar 7 follows the recently announced “new variant” Polestar 4 and second-generation Polestar 2, with both due to land in Australia sometime in 2027.

Announced last month, the Polestar 7 will be a “premium compact SUV” built in Europe and scheduled to launch in 2028, according to a global media release following the brand’s latest strategy update.
“With the Polestar 7, we enter the largest EV segment in Europe, the compact SUV segment, which will account for about a third of total BEV volume in 2025,” Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said last month.
“We are confident that we can offer our customers an advanced, performance-oriented car built in Europe at a very attractive price.”
The Polestar 7 is expected to be similar in size to the Volvo XC40 and could coincide with the next generation of sister brand Volvo’s popular compact SUV, which will be a decade old in 2027-28.
Mr Maynard’s suggestion of launching in Australia in late 2027 suggests that we could see the production model unveiled next year well ahead of its launch and/or that, although European production has been confirmed at this point, we could also see it produced in other regions such as China.
Currently the entire Polestar range for Australia is sourced from China, including the upcoming Polestar 5 flagship GT. The Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 are also manufactured in South Carolina, USA and Busan, South Korea for select markets.
Last year, Polestar registered 2373 new vehicles in Australia, a solid 38.5 percent increase over 2024. By comparison, the Chinese-owned Swedish EV specialist achieved around a tenth of Tesla’s volume.
At the top was the quirky Polestar 4 coupe SUV – infamous for its missing rear window – which achieved 1,295 deliveries. At that time there was a wide berth around the aging mid-range liftback Polestar 2 (746) and then around the larger SUV Polestar 3 (332).
The brand’s local boss is hoping for modest but sustained growth this year, helped by the release of the all-new flagship Polestar 5 GT shortly after mid-year, followed by the more “versatile” Polestar 4 body variant, which will launch in either late 2026 or early 2027.
