All aboard for a killer night of murder on the Orient Express

If you’re into true crime podcasts, are always the first to solve the mystery in “Clue,” or love a stylish “Knives Out”-style crime thriller, then “Murder on the Orient Express” at the ZACH Theater should definitely be on your to-do list.

That’s why you should see Murder On The Orient Express at the ZACH Theater.

This production is based on the classic novel by Agatha Christie and revolves around the world-famous detective Hercule Poirot. When he boards a glamorous train in the 1930s, he quickly finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation. The narrative is sharp, the pace is fast and the whole thing is full of intrigue, drama and just enough humor to keep you hooked.

Let’s talk briefly about the set. It’s impressive and, honestly, kind of magical. The design brings to life the luxury and drama of the 1930s. The video backgrounds, lighting, and choreography of the train all work together in a really cool way. It’s definitely one of the best sets I’ve seen at ZACH.

I went into this show completely fresh as I hadn’t seen the 2017 film adaptation (you can find it here: IMDb). I’ve never read the book either, so I had no idea who wrote it. This made the whole experience even more entertaining, especially trying to pick up little character details or hidden clues throughout.

The cast is strong throughout, but for me the standout was Olivia Dawson as Helen Hubbard. She brings so much energy to her role that I could watch her every time she came on stage. Without breaking away from the tension of the mystery, she made the audience laugh.

Whether you’re having a date night, a group outing, or just want an excuse to get out and get into a good story, this is a great choice. You’ll be entertained, impressed and maybe even a little inspired to get your detective hat out afterwards.

Catch Murder on the Orient Express at the ZACH Theater now through March 1st. Tickets and details below zachttheater.org. Just don’t wait too long, the train won’t be at the station forever.
