I had a goal of finishing our bedroom suite (excluding the closet, of course) by the end of this month. And I actually believe that will happen! I’m down to the last few small projects, so over the last few days I decided to put my nose to the grindstone and see how many I could cross off my list.
I started with the ones I feared the most just to get them over with. First the bedroom doors. Since I installed these doors, the doors were almost impossible to close because they were just a tiny bit too wide to fit the opening. When I first installed them they closed fine. But our house, built on a post and beam foundation and unstable soil, is constantly moving and shifting ever so slightly throughout the year, so shortly after installation they got stuck and wouldn’t close completely.
So I had to remove one of the doors, cut it off on my table saw, reattach it, and add a new piece of vertical trim where the doors meet. Thank God my mom was here to help me with that! There was no way I could have cut open the door on my table saw on my own since I only have a small table saw for the job site.
But we cut it off and then I reinstalled it and now the doors close very easily. I can finally touch up the paint (and paint the new trim), install the door handles and door lock, and “frost” the glass for privacy.
Next, try to figure out what is no longer there in this photo…
Yes, I finally moved our router! This thing has been sitting on the floor here in the foyer since I removed the hall closets. That was over a year ago. Since then, the router, with its unsightly cable hanging down to the floor, had become a permanent fixture in the hallway.
I was afraid of it because I had to go into the attic to move it and I hate going into the attic. But I was determined to finish all those dreaded projects I had been putting off Because I was afraid of them. It only took about 30 minutes and the router is now in the hallway bathroom (soon to be a storage room). This will be the perfect place for it once the room is finished.
The biggest project I was dreading was replacing the water-damaged grass wallpaper in the foyer.
Unlike moving the router, which I was dreading, which only took 30 minutes, this one wasn’t that quick. It wasn’t difficult at all (nothing beats removing 80s and 90s wallpaper), but it still took about four hours over two days to complete. But it was worth it because now it looks like new.
Here it is with a little look at the bird pillow. I love this fabric so much and will be using it for another piece of bedding that will stand out quite a bit. So stay tuned.
And finally, I hung our new monstrous 65-inch TV on the wall. This new TV was the only change Matt requested, so I was happy to oblige. Now that it’s hanging on the wall, it actually doesn’t look as big and imposing anymore.
I still have to paint the cable cover and then glue it to the wall. I hung the TV high enough that I could put things on the dresser without it blocking the screen. I have to admit that I absolutely love this TV. And I changed my mind about making a frame for it. This TV is much thinner than our previous TVs, so it actually sits close enough to the wall so it doesn’t create an ugly side view. So that’s another project crossed off (or actually removed) from my “to-do” list.
In addition to these projects, I also worked more on the curtains. This feels like a never-ending project, but I’m close to finishing it. All I have to do is put the pleats in the last panel (which happens to be one of the double wide panels for the door), and then I have to hem all four panels and they’re done. So folks, I’m actually well on my way to meeting my goal of finishing our bedroom suite by the end of this month! It will feel great to have this huge project DONE!
Tiger is also getting used to spending more and more time indoors. He still wants to go outside during the day, but is gradually spending less and less time outside. I used to let him out in the morning and then only see him around 9 p.m. But lately he’s been showing up at the back doors of the studio at random times of the day and wants me to let him in. He still doesn’t get along with Felicity or Cooper, although Cooper has calmed down quite a bit around Tiger. But every time he gets too close, Tiger lashes out at Cooper and hisses at him. He does the same thing to Felicity. But I think with time they will all get used to each other.
