YANGWANG U9 Xtreme breaks Nürburgring record for electric hypercars

The Nordschleife has a new EV hypercar record holder.

The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has once again exceeded all expectations and set a new Nürburgring lap record for electric super sports cars with a lap time of 6 minutes and 59.157 seconds. After setting a record-breaking top speed of 308.33 miles per hour at the ATP Papenburg just a month ago, the latest achievement cements BYD’s performance division as a serious contender among the world’s most prestigious hypercar brands. The feat makes the U9

Behind this extraordinary achievement is an intensive development journey that began in mid-2024 when YANGWANG engineers began extensive testing on the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife. Each lap provided valuable data on traction, cornering dynamics and heat management that directly changed the growth of the U9 Xtreme’s track setup. On August 22, 2025, German racer Moritz Kranz, a veteran with nearly 10,000 laps at the ‘Ring, pushed the U9 Xtreme to its limits. Kranz praised the car’s engineering and acknowledged BYD and YANGWANG’s steps to coordinate EV performance with traditional racing dynamics.

At the core of the U9 Xtreme’s success is its advanced e⁴ platform and 1200V ultra-high voltage setup, the first of its kind in mass production. The system powers four 30,000 rpm motors producing over 2,958 horsepower, giving a staggering power-to-weight ratio of 1,200 horsepower per tonne. YANGWANG’s DiSus-X intelligent body control system introduces “posture control” that actively adjusts the vehicle’s suspension and balance in real time. This keeps the U9

YANGWANG’s engineering team has redesigned almost every element of the U9 Xtreme’s track-readiness. A newly developed titanium alloy carbon ceramic braking system guarantees consistent deceleration under load, while a newly designed cooling system increases motor and battery performance. Only 30 examples of the U9 Xtreme will be produced, each reflecting BYD’s technical expertise and YANGWANG’s vision for the future of electric hypercars. True to its name, derived from the word “Extreme” and the symbol “X” for the unknown, the U9 Xtreme redefines what is possible on the world’s most demanding race track.
