Thoughts on Chevy Chase and his new documentary

Chevy Chase hits a nerve again with the new CNN documentary I’m Chevy Chase and you’re not. Love it or loathe it, the film is definitely something to talk about. Here is my opinion.

Thoughts on Chevy Chase and his new CNN documentary

Although many feel that the controversies (aggressive behavior, immaturity, poor comedy choices, racism, etc.) are not highlighted enough, I understand that these things were not completely left out. When I saw that Chase was involved in the documentary and even promoting it, I knew that the filmmakers would be limited in their approach to these topics. Because if it was a slam dunk, Chase wouldn’t have agreed to participate. At the same time, I don’t think they apologize for him or ignore his asshole image. In fact, he’s an asshole in some of the film’s interviews.

I also don’t think this movie would change anyone’s opinion about the comedian/actor. It sheds some light on why he has reacted and behaved the way he has over the years. It humanizes him and sheds light on some of his problems. But it also confirms that he can be an idiot. No surprise.

WThis is what other people say about Chevy Chase

Spill the ATX interviewed Chase in November before his Christmas holidays Screening and Q&A tour stop in Austin. The comments on the videos we post perfectly illustrate what people think about him. Some appreciate his films and his humor, others loathe him. Again, it’s no surprise.

In one of the most popular comment strings, @secondstarlight says:

“Chevy Chase is a huge idiot!” You know what? To me he was never an idiot. And he made me laugh many, many times.

The comment is liked by over 2500 people. However, it has spawned dozens of comments claiming the opposite.

@moontwistx replied: Well, unfortunately that doesn’t change the fact that he is actually an idiot.

Another argument comes from @litterboxfairy who says:

Does he have to be an idiot to you before he’s considered an idiot? And because he made you laugh, then everything is okay? Yes, Bill Cosby made me laugh for many years.

Other comments compare him to a rapist. I’m not sure if this is the right argument, but it’s obvious that people have extreme opinions here.
