I can’t share much progress with you today as I’m working on my last major project for the room – hemming and re-hanging the curtain panels. My bedroom to-do list is getting shorter and shorter and I’m almost ready to cross the last big project off the list. I’ve spent the last two days hemming the curtains and I only have one piece left before I can check this project off my list.
Up until two days ago I was pretty confident that the curtains would look really good when finished, but I’ve been staring at these unhemmed and very messy curtains for a while now so I started to doubt myself a little.
But now I’ve hemmed three of them, hung two of them back up on the wall, and I think they look so good. I love a clean, tailored look.
As I mentioned, since the floors in this room are the uneven floors in our entire house, I have to hang each panel and then pin the hem in place while each panel is hanging. I don’t remember ever having to make curtains like this before, so this is new to me and I wasn’t very sure I could do it right. But the two I finished and hung turned out great!
Of course, I made the simple ones (i.e. the single-width panels) first. The two remaining are the double-wide panels that flank the door. One is finished and needs to be hung and the back attached to the wall. The hem of the other one isn’t even pinned yet, so it still looks like this…
I didn’t take a photo of the other finished board I hung because Matt was still in bed and I stack all the bed pillows in that corner when the bed isn’t made. So you have to wait until you get the full picture of the bed wall with the finished curtains.
Speaking of the bed wall, I ended up hanging something over the headboard. Every time I walked past the bedroom door and took a look at the bed, my first thought was, “I love how this bed turned out!” My second thought would be, “There’s something missing.” I didn’t want anything too flashy and attention-grabbing, so I didn’t want anything colorful. I just wanted a little sparkle and sparkle. So I ended up buying five of these 12-inch sun mirrors from Hobby Lobby and hanging them over the headboard.
I think these added just the right amount of sparkle and gold without distracting from the headboard and bedding. I didn’t have enough time to take a photo before Matt was ready to go back to bed after using his exercise bike. This crossover phase where we actually live in and use a space that I’m not quite done with yet has really limited my blogging style. I’m not used to having to work and take all my pictures within such a limited time frame every day. But it’s almost done!
Once I’ve hemmed the last curtain panel and hung the last two panels, I think I’ll have three projects left on my list. Although I painted the side table gold, the table top didn’t turn out great and I’m not really thrilled with the color of the spray paint I bought. I might try another gold. And then all I have to do is paint the cable cover for the TV and the outlet covers and finally cut out the attic access. I’m so close, y’all!! I can’t wait to get everything ready, do a final clean, and then give you a tour of not just our new bedroom, but our entire bedroom suite so you can see how all the areas flow together.
As I sat in bed last night watching a show with Matt on our new, huge 65″ TV (the only thing he wanted ), I just looked around and caught the entire view of our bathroom, bedroom and foyer. I couldn’t see the closet from where I was sitting, but I had just walked out of the closet before going to bed. And I just sat there and thought, “I can’t believe this is our bedroom suite.” I absolutely love how everything turned out. Even if we had stuck with our original plan to build a new master bedroom, I don’t think I would have been happier with that than with our current agreement. It wasn’t what we originally planned, and yet I think everything worked out perfectly in the end. And I can’t wait to share it with you!
