The spirit of Godzilla dominates Infiniti’s flagship SUV.
The latest generation of the Infiniti QX80 marked an exciting new era for the flagship luxury SUV. State-of-the-art audio quality, lavish features, high-tech comfort and beautiful design have made it a solid competitor in the highly competitive field of full-size luxury SUVs. Concept versions of it were shown at events across the automotive world, demonstrating its potential as a versatile flagship.
A new kit unveiled at the 2025 SEMA show brings the vision of a performance-oriented version of the QX80 to life. Previously touted as the “QX80 R-Spec,” enthusiasts expected it could incorporate the powertrain from the now-discontinued Nissan GT-R. Those rumors have now been confirmed as Infiniti fully reveals the QX80 R-Spec, which features the VR38DETT engine derived from the enthusiast-popular Nissan GT-R NISMO.
However, instead of the 600 horsepower that the GT-R NISMO offered, the Infiniti QX80 R-Spec’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine has a tuned 1,000 horsepower, making it far more extreme and powerful than the Track Spec concept shown at this year’s Monterey Car Week. It gets this power thanks to custom turbochargers, intercoolers, exhaust manifolds and an upgraded fuel system. To complement this tremendous power, the vehicle also features GT-R-derived carbon ceramic brakes, custom coilover suspension, 24-inch bronze wheels as a nod to the GT-R, and a custom body kit.
Inspired by the GT-R T-Spec Takumi Edition, the QX80 R-Spec received a custom body kit and a color-changing exterior film reminiscent of the iconic Midnight Purple color originally made famous on the legendary R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Infiniti’s new Infiniti QX80 R-Spec is a refreshing, exciting and radical reinterpretation of the brand’s captivating flagship luxury SUV.
