Duck.ai Voice Chat from DuckDuckGo is now live, giving you the ability to talk hands-free with AI while backed by a familiar promise: your audio will not be recorded or stored, and it will not be used for training.
Language creeps into every AI app, and that usually comes with the downside of more data flowing somewhere you can’t see. Duck.ai’s voice chat is aimed at people who want spoken answers without feeling like they’re feeding another voice record.
The rollout is real, but a few practical things still need to be unearthed. DuckDuckGo says voice chat works in its own browser and most other browsers, with support for Firefox expected to arrive soon. Daily usage limits also apply, but no number is published.
The promise is the product
Duck.ai Voice Chat runs on Duck.ai. Turn it on, grant microphone permission, and you can start speaking and get spoken answers back.
DuckDuckGo also relies on plumbing details to support privacy. It says your microphone audio is streamed over an encrypted relay using WebRTC and then processed to generate a response. The company says your vote will not be saved.
Boundaries and compromises you should know
The privacy claim is clear, but the voice is still sensitive. A single question may contain names, locations or other personal details, and your voice itself may be identifying.
There is also a usage cap. DuckDuckGo confirms that there is a daily limit for voice chats and subscribers receive higher limits than free users. It says it doesn’t spell out the exact method to prevent abuse. It also warns that VPNs or using a cellular network can sometimes cause you to reach your limits more quickly.
A practical way to try it out
When testing Duck.ai voice chat, treat the first pass like a quick review. See what permissions are requested, how easy it is to turn off, and whether it behaves the same on your phone and your laptop.
For now, keep Voice Mode away from sensitive topics and use it for low-stakes tasks where convenience is the priority. As DuckDuckGo adds clearer information about providers and handling, it’s time to reconsider whether it’s ready for more personal conversations.
