Police and vehicle safety inspectors have arrested several motorists in a crackdown on modified and noisy vehicles on Sydney’s north shore.
Northern Sydney Sector Highway Patrol officers, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) vehicle safety inspectors and NSW Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff conducted another operation at Milsons Point on the lower north coast on Saturday November 15.
“Due to the large volume of modified and noisy vehicles flooding the Milsons Point, Blues Point and Kirribilli areas on weekdays and weekends, an inspection station has been established on Burton Street,” the NSW Police Force said on its Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Facebook page.

Officers inspected not only cars but also their drivers and conducted 70 breath tests and 15 oral fluid tests – three drivers returned positive oral fluid samples.
All 13 vehicles inspected by TfNSW inspectors were found to be defective, with six of them classified as “severely grounded”.
Such notices of defects occur when an authorized official believes that the vehicle poses an “immediate and serious safety risk.”
In addition, EPA staff identified seven vehicles that did not meet noise standards and a total of 47 traffic violations were cited.
This is not the first time police and TfNSW inspectors have attacked Milsons Point to target illegally converted and defective vehicles.
On August 29, officers set up a checkpoint – also on Burton Street – stopping 43 vehicles and directing 11 to a checkpoint.
That night, officers discovered 50 vehicle defects, including illegally modified engines, exhaust systems, wheels and lights.
A total of 34 breaches were reported by police, with TfNSW inspectors issuing four yellow stickers requiring vehicles to be returned to their garage addresses.
