Bentley Flying Spur Speed sets new ice distance record

Bentley’s ultra-luxurious performance sedan sets a new record.

Bentley’s model range is evolving rapidly thanks to the century-old manufacturer’s commitment to electrification and the elimination of its previous flagship W12 powertrain in favor of a new hybrid twin-turbo V8 setup that develops unprecedented levels of power and performance. With 771 horsepower, the new Ultra Hybrid Performance powertrain is responsible for the most powerful generations of the Bentley Flying Spur Speed and Bentley Continental GT/GTC Speed to date.

With this unsurpassed performance, the new Bentley Flying Spur Speed set off to the northernmost active race track in the world, the Drivecenter Arena in the northern part of Sweden, just 100 miles from the Arctic Circle, to set a unique new record in the harsh winter season. The Drivecenter Arena, currently covered in snow and ice, served as a stage for Bentley to set the fastest lap time on the track in winter conditions with his Flying Spur Speed of 2:58.

A foot of ice and snow covered the track, but thanks to four-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering, the new Flying Spur Speed skillfully harnessed the tremendous power it exerts, and the car reached a top speed of 120 miles per hour on its record-breaking run. Beyond this history, Bentley has set its own ice speed records in 2007 and 2011, but with its Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain and state-of-the-art engineering, the Flying Spur’s new ice speed record set is a major new milestone.
