The next generation electric vehicle (EV) architecture Renault will support both longer-range gasoline engines and all-electric versions.
With its 800V electrical system, cars based on the RGEV Medium 2.0 platform will have access to some of the higher DC fast charging rates. There will be three configurations of this architecture: pure electric with up to 750 km WLTP range, 4×4 electric with up to 2.0 tons of towing capacity and Extended Range EV (EREV) with up to 1400 km total range.
An EREV powertrain features a small gasoline engine that does not power the wheels but is used solely to charge the battery pack. Compared to plug-in hybrids, EREV models typically have larger batteries and a longer all-electric range.

While it can support slightly smaller vehicles, the RGEV Medium 2.0 platform will be used for the company’s next-generation C and D segment vehicles. Vehicles offered by Renault in these classes in Europe include the 4.5m Scenic and the 4.7m Rafale.
The RGEV Medium 2.0 architecture will form the basis of cars developed primarily for the European market. Outside Renault’s home region, the automaker plans to use Geely platforms, and this partnership has so far produced the South Korean-made Koleos and Filante SUVs.
Accordingly Automotive News The first production car with the new architecture will hit the market in 2028, although we don’t know which model it will be.
Accompanying these first details and images of the RGEV Medium 2.0 platform, Renault unveiled the R-Space Lab concept.
According to Renault, the R-Space Lab concept is not a “precursor to a production model,” but the name was used for a 2011 concept that previewed the fifth-generation Espace, which switched from its original people-mover format to an SUV.
Measuring 4.5m long and 1.5m high, the R-Space Lab is designed to maximize the feeling of space, with an airy cabin with thin pillars and a panoramic roof with a windscreen that extends to the B-pillar.
A full-width display is positioned where the thin dashboard meets the base of the windshield. The passenger seat can be pushed all the way back into the rear seats, making it easier for the passenger to interact with the children sitting there.
All three seating positions in the rear are the same width and, like the Honda Jazz, have a fold-up seat to expand luggage transport options. The rear doors open up to 90 degrees to make entry and exit easier.
