The Kia K4 Sportswagon has been unveiled for Europe and the UK, adding a third body style to the Korean brand’s new global small car.
At 4695mm long, the K4 Sportswagon is slightly shorter than the 4710mm K4 sedan on sale in Australia, but 255mm longer than the K4 Hatch that just launched Down Under.
It has the same 2720mm wheelbase as its siblings, but has an impressive European-spec load capacity of 604 liters – almost 170 liters more than the sedan and almost 100 liters more than the sedan – and is only available with a hands-free electric tailgate.
The K4 Sportswagon will be revealed in more detail “in due course” ahead of its launch for Europe and the UK, but it will launch with 1.0-litre and 1.6-litre turbo petrol engines with the option of 48V mild hybrid technology, just like the Euro-market K4 Hatch.
Additionally, Kia Europe has promised to add a “full hybrid” to the K4 Hatch and Sportswagon ranges “later in 2026”.

Only a single image of the new model has been released so far, although stylistically it is essentially the K4 Hatch with an extended rear overhang like the K4 Sedan.
The estate retains the K4’s signature ‘Star Map’ lighting motifs, as well as gloss black bumper and wheel arch trim in the revealed GT-Line specification.
It also adopts the K4’s cabin and features the latest Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment with two 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, as well as a 5.3-inch digital display for climate control.
European and UK models will feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across the range, as will Australian models, supported by Kia Connect services, which also means over-the-air software updates, music streaming and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
Kia’s European team is touting the K4 Sportswagon’s segment-breaking design, competing with traditional C-segment (i.e. small passenger class) rivals such as the Volkswagen Golf, as well as larger D-segment rivals (see midsize).
Like the K4 Hatch and sedan, the K4 Sportswagon is produced at the Kia Mexico plant in Pesquería, Nuevo León.
While this should allow the estate-bodied K4 to be brought to the Australian market, Kia’s local division remains cautious about the Sportswagon’s prospects for our SUV-hungry market.
However, the K4 started with a sedan body in a segment dominated by the sedan and achieved decent volume in 2025 before the sedan was added. Perhaps Kia Australia could take another risk and be one of the few local brands to offer a smaller wagon.
In the Australian market, fewer brands are offering station wagons in mainstream segments as more buyers switch to SUVs and crossovers. Only the Cupra Leon and Subaru WRX offer station wagon body styles in the small passenger class, while the Skoda Octavia is now the only new entry in the midsize class to offer this body style.
Premium brands still offer wagons in limited trim and size, such as the BMW 3 Series Touring, Audi A5 Avant and Genesis G70 Shooting Brake, although even brands such as Mercedes-Benz have removed these options in Australia.
