Chinese manufacturer GAC enters the Australian market with three vehicles, including a fully electric vehicle Aion V Pricing and full specifications have now been confirmed.
Starting at $42,590 before travelThe Aion V is a midsize SUV that rivals compatriots like the BYD Atto 3 (from $39,990 before on-roads), although it’s closer in size to the hybrid Toyota RAV4 (from $42,260 before on-roads).
The Aion V’s competitors include the Geely EX5 (priced from $40,990 before on-roads) and the Leapmotor C10 (from $45,888 before on-roads).
The Aion V is sold in Premium and Luxury trim levels, both of which feature a front-mounted 150kW/210Nm electric motor powered by a 75.26kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
Even in the base trim, Premium comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats as well as 8.8-inch digital instruments and 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment displays.

An unusual feature in the top Luxury trim is a 6.6-liter refrigerator that holds up to 12 cans. GAC says it can maintain a constant temperature of 4°C while consuming 0.5kWh of electricity for 24 hours, and the temperature can be adjusted from -15°C to 50°C.
In addition to the Aion V, GAC will launch the gasoline-powered Emzoom small SUV and the plug-in hybrid People M8. Future products from the brand will include a double cabin from 2027.
The company sells vehicles under the GAC brand in export markets, but markets separate brands GAC Trumpchi (mass market vehicles), Hyptec (premium electric vehicles) and Aion (EV) in China.
Additionally, the company is currently involved in joint ventures with Honda and Toyota, dating back to 1999 and 2004, respectively. Both are 50:50 projects to produce vehicles of the respective brand for the Chinese market.

Maintenance and warranty
GAC offers an eight-year, unlimited kilometer warranty on its electric models, while the warranty for the petrol models is seven years. Maintenance information has yet to be announced.

Security
The GAC Aion V has yet to be tested by ANCAP, although it received a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP test this year.
Euro NCAP awarded points of 88 percent for occupant protection for adults, 85 percent for occupant protection for children, 79 percent for protection of vulnerable road users and 78 percent for the safety assistant.
