After resolving its carriage dispute with Disney last month and restoring all affected channels, YouTube TV has announced a major overhaul for 2026. The streaming service plans to introduce new genre-specific “YouTube TV plans” early next year, giving viewers more choice and flexibility in customizing their subscriptions and potentially reducing their costs.
In a recent post, YouTube TV announced that it will launch more than ten genre-specific packages with sports, news, family and entertainment content early next year. While subscribers have the choice to continue with the platform’s core unified plan, which provides access to over 100 channels, this change will allow them to select channel packages based on what they want to watch.
So far, YouTube TV has only highlighted one upcoming package: the YouTube TV Sports plan. This gives fans access to all major channels and sports networks, including “FS1, NBC Sports Network, all ESPN networks and ESPN Unlimited”.
YouTube TV also notes that subscribers have the option to add premium extras like NFL Sunday Ticket and the RedZone Channel to their plans for an additional fee. Meanwhile, the packages will include popular features such as “unlimited DVR, Multiview, Key Plays and Fantasy View.”
Pricing details are not yet known, but these genre-specific packages are expected to cost less than the main $82.99 per month plan. So subscribers may be able to lower their YouTube TV bill starting next year, provided they’re willing to give up some of the channels included in the main package.
For viewers frustrated by rising subscription costs, this move could provide some relief, allowing them to better tailor their live TV experience to their needs. YouTube TV added that these changes are just the beginning, hinting that “there’s a lot in store for YouTube TV members in the next year.”
