Starting today, three Google Gmail AI features are available to free Google account holders in the US, including Help Me Write, Suggested Replies, and AI-Generated Summaries. This is a significant change from previous availability, which was limited to Google AI Pro or Ultra (paid Google One tiers) users.
To give you a quick overview of the features, Help Me Write can help you compose emails using shorter, text-based commands or proofread and refine commands you’ve already written.
Turn Gmail into a proactive mailing assistant
However, this may not be a completely new feature for smartphone users, as on-device AI like Apple Intelligence or Galaxy AI can already process and enhance text-based content. However, it could be a helpful addition for web users.
Then there are the AI-generated summaries, which provide concise overviews of long or confusing email threads in an AI overview map at the beginning of conversations. So instead of scrolling through a few emails, you can immediately get an idea of the theme of the trail.
Finally, there’s the Personalized Reply Suggestions feature, which designs replies to emails based on your writing style. If you’re okay with the fact that the feature scans your email to analyze and recognize your writing style and then generates a response as if it were you, this could be a brilliant addition to your daily mailing tasks.
Together, these features aim to reduce the time you spend writing and reading new emails and catching up on old emails. Instead of you doing all the heavy lifting in your brain, Google wants Gmail to take on some of the load, turning it from a passive inbox into a proactive mailing assistant.
Whether you’re a student, professional, or executive who handles hundreds of important emails every day, Gmail’s three AI features can make your life easier. Currently, the features are only available to personal account holders in the US, but they are expected to expand globally in the near future.
