The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX has been announced in the United States (US) as the world’s most powerful half-ton pickup truck and could mark the return of the V8 engine to Australian Ram showrooms.
The Ram 1500 SRT TRX is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine producing 777 hp (579 kW) and 922 Nm – 56 kW and 40 Nm more than the last version sold in Australia, the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition.
It surpasses the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 Ford F-150 Raptor R with 720 hp (530 kW) as the most powerful production pickup in the world and even surpasses the Ford’s torque of 868 Nm.
The new performance hero features an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time all-wheel drive with launch control for 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds – 0.1 seconds quicker than the Raptor R and 0.2 seconds quicker than the previous TRX sold in Australia.

While the new TRX is due to arrive in US showrooms in the second half of 2026, it has not yet been confirmed for Australia, but remains a possibility for local showrooms – where it would certainly be the most powerful offering in the full-size pickup class.
“While the new Ram SRT TRX is not yet confirmed for our market, it is under serious consideration,” Ram Trucks Australia general manager Jeff Barber said in a statement Daily Sparkz.
“We are very excited about the new Ram SRT TRX,” added Mr. Barber.
“The first-generation Ram TRX was a popular addition to our lineup when it was available. While we don’t have anything to announce today, we’re excited to say: watch this space.”
It would mark the return of V8 power to the Australian Ram range, with the updated 2025 range introducing the new ‘Hurricane’ twin-turbocharged inline-six engine.
However, production of the 5.7-liter V8 previously offered here will resume in the U.S. in 2025, Ram Trucks Australia said Daily Sparkz There are no plans to bring the Hemi V8 back into the regular lineup here.
The flagship 2027 Ram 1500 TRX was announced in North America for US$99,995 (A$149,455), a modest increase over the US$98,335 (A$146,974) charged there for the 2024 model.
This suggests Australian prices could be similar to the A$249,950 before on-road costs of the previous version sold here, although highly dependent on currency fluctuations.
There may also be price changes due to timing, as Ram Trucks Australia will need to homologate the vehicle for right-hand drive – with local versions being overhauled by Walkinshaw Group in Melbourne.
This could mean the wild TRX may not hit local showrooms until 2027 if it gets the green light to arrive in Australia.
The tailgate is visually distinguished by Flame Red Ram lettering on the grille and dual tow hooks and is embossed with “TRX,” while the U.S. market Bloodshot Night Edition features a two-tone exterior and graphics package.
The TRX grille feeds a new airbox for improved engine cooling – and more power – with a sport exhaust with “X-crossover pipe” and two 5-inch outlets for a more aggressive note.
The TRX rides on 18-inch wheels with 35-inch tires and has a ground clearance of 299 mm and a suspension with active Bilstein dampers and aluminum components that offers 330 mm of travel at the front and 355 mm at the five-link coil spring at the rear.
The eight-speed automatic has been upgraded with a BorgWarner active transfer case that provides a low-range crawl ratio of 2.64:1 from the all-wheel drive system combined with a Dana 60 rear axle.
The TRX’s cabin features a 14.5-inch center touchscreen, wireless cell phone charging, a head-up display and red stitched leather seats with carbon fiber detailing and a suede headliner.
