Toll evader who went viral with a sneaky device has been caught by police

You may remember a specific one Lexus GS Owner who went viral earlier this year for avoiding tolls with a remote-controlled license plate curtain. Well, now he’s been stung by the police.

Shared footage from Dashcam owners in Australia In August, the driver of this heavily modified third-generation GS sedan showed off how he appeared to hide his license plate as he drove under a toll booth before opening the curtain again.

The NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command recently caught up with the 22-year-old driver in Stanmore after discovering the vehicle was fitted with so-called “camouflage panel curtains” at the front and rear, according to its Facebook page.

As suspected, the driver had connected the device through the vehicle to a control module in the center console, where the curtains could be opened and closed at the push of a button.

“The driver gave many excuses for installing the device in his vehicle, such as having no other way to display his license plates and to cover up imperfections in the bright blue vinyl wrap that covered his vehicle,” the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said in its Facebook post.

The excuses didn’t work. The police not only confiscated the facility, but also issued an administrative offense report. The driver received nine demerit points and a “heavy” fine.
