This TCL NXTPAPER Android phone transforms into an e-reader when your eyes need a break

At CES 2026, TCL expanded its NXTPAPER range with a new model – the NXTPAPER 70 Pro – that offers multiple display modes (which happen to be the phone’s unique selling point), improved specifications and a fairly attractive price.

The main highlight of the NXTPAPER 70 Pro is its 6.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Sounds like a normal phone screen, right?

Three display modes, one eye-friendly screen

Well, the latest NXTPAPER model, like its predecessor, features a matte display that eliminates the glare we are used to from regular smartphones or tablets and gives it a paper-like look. This will keep the screen from being distracting, especially if you use it in a room with ceiling lights.

However, that’s not all. The phone’s screen features NXTPAPER technology, which allows you to switch between three display modes (and it’s anything but a gimmick). Firstly, there is the Color Paper mode, which keeps the display at maximum vividness and allows you to use the device like a regular smartphone.

Then there’s Ink Paper mode, which is essentially a black and white e-reader-style theme applied to the Android interface. Max Ink mode, on the other hand, turns the phone into an e-reader. This is a launcher that allows you to use the smartphone as a monochrome e-reader for up to seven days of reading and 26 days of standby time.

Max Ink mode also offers special AI-based tools for reading, such as AI Outline, AI Q&A, AI Audiobook and AI Podcast. To make the transition between modes seamless, the device has an NXTPAPER button on the right frame. Combined with the T-Pen stylus, the device offers a truly lifelike note-taking experience.

As for the other specifications of the NXTPAPER 70 Pro, it runs on the Dimensity 7300 chipset along with 8GB of physical RAM, features a 50MP primary camera (f/2.0) with optical image stabilization, a 32MP front camera, and a 5,200mAh battery that supports fast 33W wired charging. Out of the box, the handset runs on Android 16.

The company has announced the European price of the smartphone for now: 339 euros (around $400) for the basic variant with 256 GB of storage and 389 euros for the 512 GB storage variant (around $456). However, the NXTPAPER 70 Pro will be available in the US, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Europe from February 2026.
