The Magma GT Concept has just set a new tone for the Genesis brand. Unveiled in Le Castellet, France, it lays the foundation for the next decade of Genesis performance cars under the Magma Performance division, including a path into GT racing. The company has already confirmed entry into the WEC network in 2026 with the GMR-001 hypercar, powered by a twin-turbo V8.
While we’ve already seen some truly stunning concept cars from Genesis, like the Gran Coupe and Cabriolet, the Magma GT takes a different direction and adopts a proper mid-engined supercar silhouette, which is a first for parent company Hyundai Motor Group. While signature Genesis design elements such as the split LED daytime running lights at the front are present, the black A-pillars were meant to be reminiscent of a specific Swedish brand.
Decorated in a striking orange tone, you will notice the low-set bonnet and the boat-tail cabin that narrows towards the rear. It maximizes the “low and wide” stance that is essential for high-speed stability. The front canards are integrated directly into the headlights to generate the necessary downforce, while the G-Matrix patterns on the front splitter act as active airflow elements.
“The Magma GT Concept represents the culmination of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability. It is defined not by raw aggression or uncompromising speed, but by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, calm under pressure and carefully tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to enable effortless performance.” – Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer, Genesis.
This launch is in line with the strategy presented at the CEO Investor Day in New York last September. To support this strategy, Genesis recently announced the opening of a new design center in El Segundo, California, to expand its global design capabilities and develop future performance products with international input.
What also makes this moment so significant is how quickly Genesis has climbed the global luxury ladder. The South Korean brand has received widespread praise for its diverse range of luxury sedans such as the G80 and G90, as well as SUVs such as the GV70 and GV7=80, models that rival European counterparts in terms of sophistication and technology.
In addition to the Magma GT concept, Genesis also presented the 640 hp GV60 and the G90 Wingback Magma Concept Wagon. But the halo model will guide its portfolio for the next decade, and by committing to a mid-rear engine platform and future motorsport use, Genesis is creating the pedigree it needs to compete more effectively with established brands.
